MayMetMo 2020 #16: Quartz for Utopian

To mark the day, each child is given a piece of quartz on their 18th birthday, to mark their passing into adulthood.   The crystal is flawless but mutable.  With each good deed and stalwart action, the quartz perceives the quartz glows as the molecules excite.   With each bad deed, lie, or character flaw, the quartz too, grows these flaws.  Becoming dark, and fractured, or with imperfections along the surface in the form of chips, and cracks.   This has led to a state of constant bettering of the self, as people seek to rise in station, and those that do so must be as flawless as possible to remain in good measure within the public eye.   Because the Quartz can see into the soul of the holder, and its machinations are so outwardly forthcoming, a person can be measured easily by the quality of their Quartz even into their later years.   Dark spots and cracks are capable of healing, and even the most damaged can seek to better themselves and shine with the purest of hearts if their intentions are true in nature.  Likewise, quartz can diminish if power or ego goes to the head.   This simple act of carrying a piece of the soul, reveals what lay behind the outward appearance.   Quartz can not be lost, for it acts as a homing beacon eagerly awaiting the barer with steady rhythmic vibrations and hums followed by amber hues and scarlet light until it is returned to the original user.   Quartz can also easily be replaced, by attuning to a new shard, in case of loss, the Quartz will easily adopt the last known configuration of the previous and integrate seamlessly into the user’s life.

Quartz,  for a better tomorrow.
