Villanelle
First ever Villanelle Poem from High School years
I think of the first time I spent with you.
My flesh and blood, you were finally here.
Feeling so lost, all this time without you.
Everyone being there felt like a sign.
Faces near, blood relations all appear.
I think of the first time I spent with you.
New adopted parents sign on the line.
I was loved dearly, but I wanted you near.
Feeling so lost, all this time without you.
Voice inside, telling me it will be fine.
Walking through the door, fear would disappear.
I think of the first time I spent with you.
It took so long, away my hope would dwine.
When we would meet, the answer was unclear.
Feeling so lost, all this time without you.
My mother, hands separated from mine.
I’m sorry, you said, sounding so sincere.
I think of the first time I spent with you,
feeling so lost, all this time without you.
