I hate being a grown-up.
So, I kind of hate my job. After the last couple of days I am starting to realize it. I had been thinking that it was just the answering phones part, but it totally isn’t.
First of all, I kind of despise my boss. He seems to be a nice guy on some level, but I hate how condescending he is. I have a BA in math. I am not an idiot. Please don’t call me sweetheart. grrr…
And then there is the problem of having work to do. Half the time I have nothing to do, and the other half, I have way too much to acomplish.
Yesterday, I had to do the FedEx shipment, because the girl who does it was out. She showed me how to do everything Thursday, and there were supposed to be two people (Linda and Alex) around who could help me. Ok, seems good, right? Finally some responsibility, and something to make the day go by faster.
Well, I don’t have a computer, so I have to wait until the girl who sits next to me at the reception desk leaves (which is at 1:45 because she only works half days) so that I can actually print the labels and such for the packages, because everything is online. And, Fridays we close at 5 (an hour early) because I work for Jews and they need to be home before the sun sets. So, thats ok. I should have 3 hours to do this, it should be fine, right? No. Daylight savings time… we close at 4 on Fridays now………
Ok. so, if I work fast, I can do this, and besides, I have help, right? After the first printout (which takes forever, and mind you I need to print 4 pages for every package…) I am out of black ink.
Peggy was supposed to replace it Thursday.
Peggy is the girl who does FedEx.
Peggy is gone.
I have to print everything in blue ink.
3pm. Linda leaves. Ok, she always leaves at 3 on Fridays, I expected that.
3:20pm. FedEx guy shows up. Me: "You are suposed to come here at 4, I called at 1:30" FedEx guy: "I have here that the shipment has been ready since 1:30, and needs to be picked up by 4". Luckily he said he would come back later. Thank god.
3:30pm. Alex leaves. Conversation earlier: Me: "Alex, you’ll be around later to help me with FedEx, right?" Alex: "Yea, definitely." liar? Yes. That boy will be getting an ass kicking Monday…
So, I have no ink in an already slow printer, no help, and the phones are ringing. Half the calls I get are people calling me asking if their labels are ready. If you keep calling me they will never be ready.
4pm. Not done. FedEx guy not here thankfully. I am running up and down the stairs to use Peggy’s computer because it is hooked up to a printer that works, and the phones are off because we are technically closed.
4:20pm. FedEx guy shows up, I am closing the last box. One last minute shipment changed. Stuff goes out. I stamp the regular mail to take to the mailbox on my way out.
4:30pm. I leave work half an hour late, nerves fried, sweating because I have been running up and down the stairs.
Yesterday was the crappiest day ever. I am never doing FedEx again unless they give me my own computer, and set it up to a printer that works. Blah.
Work sucks. That’s all for now…
-kitten =^_^=
eek that DOES suck. So glad I only work part time now. Chin up!
