BOMB OF LOVE
Blow it up.
So I’m at work yesterday and decide I will search out my last name to see if any of my family has ever stayed at the hotel I work at. I do this quite often and most times strike out. This time I see: Barrett, Anthony. The name of my favorite cousin. City is right. I did him wrong years back, one of the handful of regrets I kept in my hip pocket. He’s such a good kid. So there is a phone number on the records and I decide to send a text. Sure enough it’s his cell and he responds. We talk via text for a bit and I invite him to the DMB site I built. I just now realized he is the one that really turned me onto the band. While it took going to a live show to really hook me in, Tony made a copy of their Everyday CD for me back in 2002. I remember it distinctly because he put the opening song I Did It on the cd twice.
Long story short… Even though he’s moving to Washington soon I’m back in touch with my favorite cousin. For those that know me well you understand how big this is. I haven’t spoken to much of my family in years… so to be back in touch with Tony and realizing he was the one that sparked my love of DMB’s music… well, it’s bound to be a good omen. Hell, if anything else it will leave me no excuses to not go see DMB at The Gorge in 2012 since he’ll be living an hour away from the venue.
I never did a single thing that did a single thing
To change the ugly ways of the world
I didn’t know it felt so right inside
I didn’t know it all
I open up the curtains
I heard sirens there, the lights flash and crawl
But I did it justice
I just did it for us all, you know
All you people are the skewers of our dreams
Like the cat that collared me…
Isn’t it great rekindling old friendships? It always seems that when one good friend slowly slides away into oblivion, another from the past shows up to take her place, and be an even better friend. Funny that.
Warning Comment
It’s funny how much family ends up meaning sometimes, even just reconnecting with a cousin. =)
