It became clear to me last month just how much my musical tastes are the direct result of my parents and maternal grandfathers taste in music. Namely:
Mother: Neil Diamond, Elton John, The Eagles
Father: LZ, Hendrix, The Doors, The Moody Blues
Maternal Grandfather: Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis
It seems as if there is a bit of each of these artists in the musicians I listen to on a regular basis. There is only one exception to this rule, Leonard Cohen. For me, Leonard is up there in the top 5 songwriters of the past century. Everyone today seems to have this label: "The modern day _______."
