Shadow and Smoke

Midnight rain is much different than afternoon rain. There’s just something about not being able to see it, regardless of how hard it’s falling. We still get wet, of course, but it doesn’t feel half as wet as it does in the afternoon, when we can see the hammering lines of water as clear as the dark wet circles forming on our clothing. At night, both are invisible, and it seems to make all the difference– out of sight, and out of feeling’s reach. In our lives there is much rain, and much more to come…and when a little water never hurt anyone, how much do we suffer needlessly, I wonder, while we choose to wander around in it in the afternoon?

a night time rain is like a cleanse.. it seems refreshing. where as an afternoon rain is an inconvenience. but, either way, i love the smell of rain.
