Answers to some notes questions

On the previous recipe:  Could you use something like broccolini or broccoli rabe?
Ans:  Uh, I have no idea.  I suppose so, although I will admit to never having used either.  Wikipedia says that broccolini is a cross between regular broccoli and chinese broccoli, so that’s a good point.  And broccoli rabe has the leaves on it, so that’s a good point too.  I’ll guess that either one would work.  See which one you like better.

Kids’ sports events:  The son continues to get better results in his large-scale fencing tournaments, although he always thinks he could have done better (which is a good attitude, right?)    The daughter did well – she had the best score for the women recurve archers from JMU, but then Columbia came in and did well. Mine ended up tied for 3rd, which is not bad.

So, for the next recipe, I’ll take votes for which one folks would like to see next.  Here are your choices:

1) Pad (Stir Fry) Spicy Meat or Seafood with Thai Basil

2) Kaeng Kua Curry – (Seafood/Chicken with pineapple in red curry)

3) Salmon Pa-Nang curry

4) Tom-Kha Kai (Spicy chicken & Galangal Coconut soup)

5) Yum Neeu (Spicy Beef/Seafood Salad).

I’ll edit this entry later tonite and post a picture of the little cans of curry paste.  Some of these things should be available online too, and I’d be happy to help with links and such if folks need.

Okay, leave a note and cast your vote!!  I’ve made all of these at least once since class.

later, gators!

I vote for #4, although they all sound delicious.

#3 and then #1. Yay!

I shall have to leave this one to the people that cook. Your note made me laugh.

1 or 3. Yay!

I’m always jealous of you daughter when I hear about her archery adventures. Does she use a longbow or crossbow? I used to teach kids how to use a longbow, I really need to take it up again, I kicked ass! :p

#2!! xo

Broccoli Rabe is so bitter, though…It would overwhelm the dish.

2 please. David’s been on an insane curry kick lately, and I just happen to have pineapple. I think I’ll give the broccolini a whirl. I think I can actually find that. Around here, if it isn’t Portuguese, I can’t find it. Lots of hugs, John

I’ve got a curry thang. #2. I’m always looking for ideas for using curry.

#1.. not that i can cook or that i would be allowed to (not my house!) as long as your son doesn’t beat himself up for what he considers a poor performance and isn’t uneccessarily harsh on himself then always wanting to do better is a great thing 🙂 xxx
