Day Trip!

Sweety and I did a day trip up to Philadelphia last Tuesday.  Well, not exactly Philadelphia.  Actually we went to the little town of Bala Cynwyd, which is like northwest Philly.  Purpose?  We visited The Transgender Center, run by Dr. Sherman Leis.  That must be an old picture of him on their website – he looks a lot more .. experienced now.

We went up there to get a consultation on facial feminization surgery for me (FFS for short).  Leis is one of the very few on the east coast who actually has specialized in this and can be trusted.  If you click on “Services” then “Facial Feminization” you can see some examples of his work – these are not even the best – we saw a lot more during the visit.

He pretty much mentioned things that I’d wanted to have fixed or I didn’t like anyway.

Forehead:  did you know females have shorter foreheads than men?  Eyebrows ride higher, hair line rides lower.

Nose:  I have a somewhat bulbous end on my nose that I’ve always hated. It’s a family trait in the men in the family. Easy to fix, not even a whole nose job.

Upper and lower eyelids – cleaned up, get rid of the bags under my eyes

Lipo on the extra stuff on my neck, general facelift to tighten things up.

And here’s the one I didn’t suspect:

Shorten the distance tween the upper lip and the bottom of the nose.  This is longer in men, shorter in women.  Also enhances the look of the upper lip.

He also suggested a chin implant, which I’m not too sure I want.

Funny thing is, Sweety has a couple of things she’d like to get adjusted, so she may end up going first before me.  We’re planning on next summer for me, we might schedule her foray into this adventure around Christmas.

It’s pretty exciting, really.  It kind of hit me later on tho – all in all, some pretty significant changes – and it would definitely put me on the other side of folks’ gender boundary.

What I realized was kinda freaky was the idea of looking into a mirror and seeing a different face look back.  That’s a pretty weird realization, I think.

More later…

I saw a tv show about gender alteration. There was a man interviewed who’d had the feminization done. Maybe because he was still living as a man, it just didn’t look “right”. Perhaps if he had been living and dressing as a woman, it would have enhanced his appearance.

Maybe the face you see looking back will be the face you’ve always known should have been there all along? Being comfortable in your own skin for the first time in a long time. Everything on your list looks reasonable except the chin implant (that one sounds painful but I don’t know if it is). Definitely look into that one a little more and only do it if you’re comfortable with it. I’ve only seen the one picture of you from the event you went to where you wore the long black dress and I don’t remember your chin standing out. I will have to check out the link when I get home. I can’t see it on the blackberry. Much love, Robin

I can understand that somewhat. Many years ago I bleached my hair to a light bloned and every time I looked in the mirror I was shocked. Facial surgert must be very shocking. Still it’s part of who you are now and I think you will be thrilled. Good luck.

Wow- that is so cool. I’m too much a scaredy when it comes right down to it to have anything done. (I’d love to have lipo so my jawline returned. My head melts into my chest, my chin has vanished and my neck has gotten thicker- LOL arg!) I’m excited for you and want to see picts afterward.

I have in the past, but not lately. However, a person’s gender does not matter to me for a make-over (or anything else for that matter).

I never would have noticed (or thought about) the space being longer/shorter between the nose and lip – but it made a HUGE difference in the pictures! Good luck!

RYN: Yeah, we’d probably head to Orlando and Disneyland and all that malarkey. I personally want to go to Seaworld again to feed the dolphins. Last time I was there I was with Matt, and it was his first time abroad, so I let him squeeze into the throng and do it!
