Painting the House

Hi everybody,

I bought the house we now live in after I moved out from the ex – I bought in ’99.  The whole interior is done in the same, identical shade of beige/ cream.

I have come to hate this color.

Even after I had recessed lighting installed in the kitchen and it badly needed new ceiling paint, I procrastinated.

I did do the kids’ rooms – my son and daughter.  And one room in the basement (why? why did I pick that room and waste that time on a room even I don’t see that often?  jeez, sometimes I wonder who’s in my head when I’m not).

Daughter went off to college, son and daughter switched rooms and those two got repainted again (no, not the kids, you bozos, the rooms). That was in 2006.

Well, something happened, and we’ve gone into overdrive.  In the last month, we’ve repainted:

the upstairs hallway, stairway, and entry foyer;

kitchen and breakfast area

downstairs half-bath

and yesterday, in one day, the TV room.

red accent wall we talked about for a long time, gray trim (borrowed from son's room, hiis color scheme), and sweety.

Whew.  Now all that needs painting are the formal living and dining rooms, our bedroom and master bath, and the upstairs bath.

We’re taking a break for a few days.

Sweety’s mom showed up today for a couple of days visit on her way to see her mom (Sweety’s granma). I like Sweety’s mom – she’s fun, kind, and a great sense of humor.

Oh, and by the way, that room was repainted (ceiling, walls, trim) in one day.  New electrical fixtures and everything back where it belongs the next morning. Not bad, not bad at all.

Painting is hard work no matter how easy they make it look on HGTV.

damn, impressive. did you do a whole rainbow of colors or did you stick to that red?

August 26, 2008

Glad you have the energy and drive for all that!

I like it! Our living room has the same thing, one dark red wall with a light sage/tan on the others. I like it, it’s not too much and adds a nice punch of color 🙂

Speaking of senses of humor, is the paint shade next to the bricks named brick?

You are hired! Wow- and thanks. Our place is so in need too. (joking) Love the color. We are in the same delima as you. White and beige everywhere the eye can see. Why do people choose these colors? Blah city. I want to do what you have done- paint one wall in a burst of color- the other walls a nice sand color or something. I’ve been talking about it for years- but I’ve just now started in the curtain project. I’m going to finish that first. I love your ceilings. (Bet no one has told you that.) We have that outdated “cottage cheese” insulation type ceilings. Now they have lovely round circle plastered up holes every 6 inches. I’m hiring someone to smooth that mess out for a nice scraped ceiling. (Whatever they call that smooth look)

for Deve: actually, it’s called “Rodeo Red” from Behr, the Home Depot home brand. honestly, we didn’t pick it for the name. Please don’t think we did!! For the other colors, the kitchen is a very very pale pink with white trim, the downstairs bathroom is slightly brighter pink. the hallway/stairway/entry has off white walls and a yellowish trim (pics to follow). we plan to do accent wallsfor our bedroom and one of the other two main rooms.

ryn: Thanks for looking it up. I’ll call it Red Bear then.

The room looks awesome. Great job. I’m glad you didn’t paint the kids. The other kids probably would have made fun of them (kids can be cruel). Enjoy your freshly painted house. xo

Wow, painting is bloody hard work, I’m impressed. I do rather like that red, too.

Well done on the painting. Having done something similar just recently, I know how tiring it can be. My burning question is, is that a Dyson?? (I love my Dyson.)

Way cool! Painting is one of my least favorite things to do (I am very sloppy and don’t know if I don’t enjoy it because I am so sloppy or I am sloppy because I don’t enjoy it)!

My only advice is to find a pallet because every room leads to the next room. Colors…good. Love,

ryn: I started that rumor. I don’t think the old wheezer has any choice. The question is, how many below-the-radar kluxxers are their among the Republican True Believers. Because they’ll stay home. They will only be countable by their absence.
