CoH CoS (Chapter 6)

It was 2:54am. The university lay in a blanket of sleep. Not a soul stirred. Yet in the large field by the student union there stood a group of people surrounding two others. The sound of steel clashing permiated the air. The two figures moved with a grace far beyond any normal human. Each wore a small earpiece. One of the warriors wore it in his left ear, the other warrior in his right. Music played in their earpieces. Different songs for each warrior, each tailored to their own unique fighting style. Finally, there was a quick move and it was all over…the blade stopping a few inches short of the lighter haired warrior’s throat. Each warrior slowly rectracted their swords, bowed to each other and removed the earpiece from each of their ears.

“You still get sloppy on anything in kuki defense.” Damien said, offering his hand.

“I know, I know…I’m working on it.” Chip replied, shaking Damien’s hand.

The rest of Damien’s students talked about the techniques used as they all headed up to Damien’s dorm room. Damien opened the door and they all walked in. He waited until each of them had sat down, then he turned to Chip.

“Alright, let’s get down to business. What have you got for us Chip?”

Chip stood up and looked around the room for a bit before speaking,

“As all of you know by now, your Elysian crystals began to glow at exactly 13:34 hours yesterday afternoon. I’ve already checked our scanners and found the reason for the alarm. There’s a Randon cruiser headed toward Earth. By even the earliest of calcuations it should be here exactly three months from the time the crystals began to glow.”

Everyone in the room began talking at once.

Damien stood and waved his hand, “Silence, silence! Now we all knew this was going to happen sooner or later. Now, nor ever is the time to lose your cool. The only thing I was to hear is intelligent questions and/or comments about the situation at hand.”

After a moment, hands began raise and the questions started.

“Is the UN aware of the arrival?

“Yes, I’ve already briefed them myself. All of them have already sworn complete coorperation.”

“Is there anyone else aware of the presence of the Randon?”

“We have reason to believe that the Arais know as well, Damien is to meet with them next week.”

There was was a slight rumble of voices at this, but it quieted within a few seconds. “Command directive?”

“Nothing out of the normal directives for this situation. If any of you don’t remember the directive for this refer to your B.E.”

“I’m assuming that we are to alert all students of ours, being that only we were called and they were not.”

“Yes, that’s right, each of you is responsible for giving your apprentices the information and preparing them for this.”

Each person nodded to themselves, the questions exhaused. Damien stood once again.

“Alright, all of your know what to do, if there are no further questions, then you’re all dismissed.”

Each person saluted before closing their eyes and disappearing in a soft flash of lights. After a moment only Damien, Chip, and Athena were in the room.

“Are you going to stay the night Uncle Chip?”

Chip smiled at Athena and gently ruffled her hair.

“No, I can’t stay tonight, Vera is expecting me home and I want to tell her the news as soon as possible as well. Good night to you both.” He hugged Athena swiftly, shook Damien’s hand and departed in a flash of light.

“Daddy, is everything going to be alright?”

“I hope so hun, I hope so.”

With those words they climbed into bed, the lights turned off and they fell asleep.
