edgefest

ok, so i went to edgefest in dallas on may 17th to see the civic tour and a few other bands perform, and it was awesome! the one thing that sucked though was that i wasn’t in pit, although i started to like that fact by the end of the day. it was like the longest concert ever, hehe.

here’s how it went: rayray and i got dropped off at the venue by liz about an hour before doors opened (we were making sure we wouldn’t get lost). we got in and looked around and just bummed really, until they let us sit in our seats. our seats were kinda far from stage and we weren’t even together, but fortunately one person never showed up, so we got to sit together anyways. so, about 30 minutes after we sit down, i get bored waiting for the bands to start playing so i’m like, maybe the rejects are walking around or something. rayray and i go to where all the sales stands were and we see this area where the radio djs are sitting and talking (it was a radio sponsored event). and so we go chill over there. then someone open this gate in the back and i see nick standing there! so i’m like, nick is back there raymund, and they open the door again and all the rejects come out because they’re about to do an interview. i was like, how lucky am i deciding to get out of our seat right at this moment? so we watch them do the interview and tyson sprayed this guy all over with water, it was funny. after they were done we walked around some more, and we ran into andy (the merch guy) and i told him hey, and asked if aar was gonna be on the main stage because we weren’t sure. he said yeah, like right now. then we decided to go sit in our seats.

the rejects were the first band we saw, and they kicked ass as usual 🙂 what sucked was that a lot of people hadn’t even gotten to their seats yet because it was only 4 in the afternoon, so the pit wasn’t that big and there weren’t that many people sitting. those people that were there weren’t even standing up or rocking out like i was. people were probably looking at me, but i don’t care, hehe. aar is awesome. so they finished and then rayray and i walked around again hoping to find the guys somewhere walking around. unfortunately that never happened, but we did get to see the riddlin’ kids giving an interview. they’re nice guys, and clint was just walking around later, but i didn’t go up to him since i don’t really know their songs. we decided to walk back to our seats again, right when seether was finishing their set, so we got to see “fine again” and one other song… then evanesence or however you spell it came on (we saw her interview too). they were pretty good, and they do actually have more than one song, hehe. the girl sings the same live, so that was cool, but their songs sorta sound the same.

after they played, we saw mxpx and they rocked! they are so cool live. i just wish i knew more of their songs. i only know the ones off “slowly going the way of the buffalo” so i sang those. 🙂 they also sang two new ones from their upcoming album (one of them was the pepsi commercial song). after they went offstage, good charlotte came out. they were pretty good as well. the crowd was crazy during their performance. and the guys were saying some pretty nice things about the fans and got all serious when they were talking about suicide and how it’s stupid. they were cool. then the very last band we saw was new found glory. they are so exciting live, it was awesome. the guitarist ran off stage to like, the middle of the seating, sorta near where i was, and right when i had decided to go see what was going on, he started running back towards stage. =_ they also started singing 50 cent’s “in da club” for a little bit. they were pretty funny, and their songs kicked ass of course. i’m glad they played quite a few songs from sticks and stones, because that’s the only cd i have of them. i should get more…

ok, so that was the end of the concert and rayray and i go outside of the venue to wait for liz. i was unhappy that i had even gotten to talk to one reject so i was like, let’s go look for their bus. so we get up and walk around the corner of the building, and all the buses are right there, and there’s tons of people waiting. well, i recognize “rolling thunder,” aar’s tour bus, fairly quickly and then i see that mike is chilling outside of it. he was talking to these three other guys, probably friends, so i went and tapped him on the shoulder, told them they were awesome, gave him a hug, and told him i’d see him chicago (story coming soon!!). he was like, “thanks so much, awesome” and i walked off. then i noticed andy was talking on the phone and i wanted to talk to him about his little ‘zine with his girlfriend, so i waited around until he was done. he started walking towards us so i was like, hey andy! what’s up? and he came up and started chatting it up with us. i told him i thought him and his gf were so cute and he told us about his plans for his zine and such, and then i asked him about warped and how they’re not doing the texas dates anymore. he was like, yeah, it’ll still be a good show though. i made a sad face and he was like, “i know, not without the rejects.” hehe, he’s a cool guy. then liz got there, so we left. and that was my edgefest 2003. good times!
