NJM 15: funny dichotomy

I was driving home from work today and noticed something hilarious. I was sitting at a red-light next to a pickup truck. The driver was a big, tall, hairy man. He was listening to “jesus take the wheel” There was a cross on his windshield, and the bumper sticker on the back of his car read ‘ask me about my savior and I’ll be happy to introduce you’. He had a jesus fish.

I was sitting in my car. The bumper stickers on my laptop propped up in the back windshield said “Guilt, fear mass insanity – three cheers for christianity” and “don’t pray in my school and I won’t think in your church”. I have a rainbow Obama sticker. I was listening to Perfect Circle’s “Judith” and I’m a short-ish, smaller-er woman.

For those unfamiliar with Judith, this was the part that was playing as we were waiting.

“You’re such an inspiration for the ways
That I’ll never ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you
How the savior has abandoned you
Fuck your God
Your Lord and your Christ
He did this
Took all you had and
Left you this way
Still you pray, you never stray
Never taste of the fruit
You never thought to question why

It’s not like you killed someone
It’s not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you
Broken down and paralyzed
He did it for you
He did it for you”

I find this ironic – and hilarious. I can only imagine what the people behind us were thinking – if they noticed.

Just sayin’

DUDE, I have ALWAYS wanted to have that song on when I’m stopped by a car covered in Christian stickers. I mean, really… what are the odds?!
