NJM #5 – archipelago

they stretched as far as the eye could see –
little islands, little chances
floating like buoys on an endless expanse of water.
Each a different story, a different chance.
I spend my time in a previous world traversing the waters
island hopping, examining the scenery
the inhabitants
the world.
Taking a moment here – a year on some more developed lands
but unavoidably returning to my boat, alone,
moving on to the next adventure, the next question
the next wandering.

I went about it all wrong, see.

I was looking for fulfillment on a world unlike mine,
incompatible.
I never bothered looking in the boat, assured that I was alone.
I wasn’t.

When I stopped looking, you found me, like you had been there all along
maybe you had been
I just had to stop looking at everything else
and take a look to find myself
to discover you, waiting.
