apparently the monsoon is back

It is POURING out there. I may have to get up and close the deck door, which I only just opened. I had it shut all evening thanks to the Demonically Possessed Children next door, who were running back and forth in the road in front of our house, shrieking. Shrieking, running, and riding little teeny surprisingly noisy cars. I keep reminding myself that despite the noise level, they are much better neighbors than, say, drunken whooping college kids. I also was a little happy to discover that it’s not just my nerves they’re getting on. Mine and Baker B’s, I mean. The woman across the street works on campus too and sees Baker B occasionally – she told him the other day that the banshee kids wake her and her husband up way too early on Sunday mornings. I wasn’t glad they’re being woken by screaming children, but I’m glad it’s not that we’ve officially turned into the neighborhood curmudgeons.

By the time I get up on Sundays, they’ve gone to church. That’s my quiet, child-free time, where I can actually enjoy sitting on my deck! And thanks to our very loud White Noise Machine, aka the old stereo, they don’t wake us up. Good thing, because if shrieking children were waking me up on a day I got to sleep in, I think it would officially be time for some very late night Tom Waits concerts.

Well, anyhow, my long-lost point was that I was enjoying having the door open and hearing the chirping night bugs instead of the screaming children. And now it’s pouring rain.

Yikes, AND thundering. And lightening. Perhaps I should get off the computer.

We are going to Charleston first thing in the morning, hooray!!! And staying till Tuesday. I’ve been trying to get packed and clean up the house a bit so we don’t come back to a complete disaster. And getting all the pictures off my camera so I can… horrors …. delete everything and have a clean memory card. Because I’ll need it!

Okay, I really need to get off the computer before I get electrocuted. It’s getting a little scary out there. I’ve been a terrible noter but should be able to do some catching up this weekend, since I’m sure I’ll fork over the wireless fee at least a couple of nights so I can experience the joys of highspeed internet connections.

Happy long weekend to everyone who’s getting a long weekend, and happy Friday to everyone else! And wish me good car luck – good car karma, I suppose – as the last disaster is still pretty fresh in my mind. We’ve already decided that if it’s even sprinkling when we want to go in town, we’re calling a taxi.

Oh boy, a weekend away. You have so earned good car karma. Actually I think you have earned new car karma but in the meantime good is good. Have fun!

Man, I can totally tune kids out. It’s the four-wheelers in the tiny backyard and the kid next door going around and around on her miniature motorcycle while her father hollars instructions and corrections at her and OH, the drunken people sitting by the pool getting louder and louder and the whole while sounding like they’re IN my bedroom. Yeah. Anyway, you have a happy long weekend, too! *hugs*

AH, you have reminded me how fortunate I am ot have old and deaf neighbours on one hand, non-existent ones on another and reasonably quiet ones elsewhere. The ones across the road have a noisy teenager on the weekends, but now … well I’ll smile at him as he thumps and whooshes on his (industrial strength) stereo. Banshee screams would annoy me more. It could be worse, it could be domestic violence — I’ve lived next to that and it was horrible.

Maybe you should get a BB rifle for those kids. Have your own little shooting gallery. One of my neighbors likes to go out at 07:30 on Sunday mornings and fire up his Cessna leaf blower to blow leaves off of his gravel. I’m on my way to work then, but it’s still inconsiderate. At least he no longer yells and whistles for his dog at 04:50 AM. He used to do this for about 30 minutes while thedog refused to return home.

Have a great trip. And take loads of pics. (As if I needed to say that …….)

Good grief! They must be up early to wake up neighbours before church. I HATE it when my daughter shreaks. We have a no shreaking policy with her….she would win a prize. I love long weekends. I would do well with a constant four day work week.

Happy weekend! Can’t wait to see the pictures. It’s Labor Day morning and my normally quiet husband is powerwashing the siding on our house. Hmm, I wonder what the neighbors think of that noise? It’s not a shriek, it’s more like a very loud low pitched growl. Hopefully they’ll just ask to borrow yet another tool and not call the Noise Control Police. I have to wash the windows after he’s done. I love looking out clean windows. I’m looking for self cleaning windows – do you know who sells them?
