Preservation

You’re all I could see as you stared into me

The room faded away

Well-lit and in the dark

You found my long, lost soul

My body cried out to you –

You answered the call, and

If I had been standing

I would have fallen.

Oh, weak knees

Glass butterflies, fragile in my belly

Do not break

Preserve this memory like berries in a jar.

To keep you is to have you

I will not starve.

My flesh is not satisfied

but my mind, my mind …

Such a small moment in time

A fraction of our busy lives

And it was the best

I will always keep you.

I keep you because I love you.
