A Change and The Party *Edit: Hair Pictures!
One of my favorites, splendid exposition., recently posted an entry which she mentioned having colored her hair. She’s posted entries like that in the past… but something about her last one sent me on a impulsive hair whirlwind extravaganza. I knew that my hair was at an awkward length and I knew that it didn’t look great so I made the decision to get it chopped off. And then, as suddenly as I decided to cut it, I decided that I needed to color it too (which, if you know me, is completely out of character. I love my natural hair color!).
It was Saturday. I called nine salons in and around my neighborhood and none could fit me in for a cut and color. Then I remembered a salon located only a block and a half from my apartment. I called, and they had an opening. I was consulting with a hair stylist within the hour.
I wanted the cut to look like this:

Not too short, similar to the cut that I already had… but this cut has shape. And I thought it’d work on my head.
We decided to do some lowlights and highlights to add some dimension to my hair without doing anything too drastic. The highlights are two shades lighter than my natural hair color and the lowlights are two shades darker. I said that I wanted them put in sporadically and I absolutely, positively, did not want them to look stripey (because I don’t think hair is supposed to looks stripey).
So, she put the foils in. The color turned out cute, but it wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. There are a lot more light foils than dark which lightened up my natural color quite a bit when I was hoping to deepen it just slightly. I wanted the lighter color to accent the dark color… I didn’t want the light color to take over. Overall the foils are subtle, which I like. They’re low-fuss. With that said, I don’t really have any complaints. I do like how it turned out; it’s just different.
After the foils were done she chopped off my hair. The cut, unfortunately, does not look like the picture that I brought along. It definitely looks cute and I do like it, but it doesn’t look like the picture. It’s shorter… extremely similar to what my hair looked like before I decided to grow it out. Kind of like this:

but slightly longer in the front. I guess you’d call it a bob?
So, the color and the cut wasn’t what I wanted but I also like it. I’ve had this cut before and it looks good with my face shape. I’m happy with the outcome.
After leaving the salon I went to Dave’s where I napped with him in his bed. Dave had been trying to get me to cut my hair for months because he liked how it looked when I used to wear it shorter, so he was excited when he saw how it had turned out. After an hour or so of napping he decided that he also wanted a hair cut. So, we called around found a place that could fit him in, and sped back to my neighborhood.
He just had it buzzed like always (not too short). It looks very much the same as it always does. Very sexy. 🙂
Later we met 15 of Dave’s oldest friends at our favorite sushi spot for Dave’s friend John’s going away party. It was 8pm and I hadn’t eaten anything since 7am so I was starving. I ordered a cucumber, basil, and soju martini, a bunch of raw oysters, miso soup, and the sushi dinner (the seafood used changes daily depending on what they got in that day). Last nights dinner included squid, snapper, big eye tuna, salmon, yellowtail, octopus nigiri and a tuna and avacado roll.
It was all totally bomb. I fucking love sushi.
After dinner we all had another round of drinks and then went to another nearby bar where we found a quiet booth. We stayed out until 2am (that’s 3am now that we’ve made the switch for daylight savings time!). It had been a long time since I’ve stayed up that late!
Anyway, I’ll try to get a picture up of my haircut tomorrow. I’m going to study for my physiology exam now!
***Edit: I just took these. I’m not wearing any make-up and I need a shower, but this should give you an idea of what it looks like! Sorry for the hugeness.

And yes, I’m a goofball. This has been established.

John just posted this on Facebook; it was taken the night of the party at the sushi restaurant. I don’t remember the first guys name but the next over is Clint, then Dave, then me! (Don’t you love my bag? $25 at Target! Looove the color!)
LOL – glad i inspired such a hair-cutting extravaganza! i know exactly how you feel though about it not coming out as you want, as you know from my recent entry. i’m actually going in on wednesday so those mo’fos can fix it. i’ve always loved your natural hair color, too. i bet that cut looks fantastic with your face shape, even if it’s shorter than you want. i can’t wait for pics!! i DID think that pic you posted was the new hair at first and i was thinking, “i don’t see any highlights, etc.” ha. i can’t believe you went that long without eating! is that unsafe for a diabetic? dinner sounds delish. i’m doing sushi with the girls tuesday night. nom nom nom.

It’s cute! And still different from the first pic you posted. It never looks like the pic you give them. Ever. 😛 And I’m fond of the color.
