Big Bang

Last night as I sat outside on a restaurant patio with my friends Clint and Rachel (wine in hand) I saw this:

From Minneapolis it looked smaller than that, but left a trail in the night sky that stretched on for miles.  As it got closer and closer to the ground it flashed brighter and brighter, ending with a huge flash that lit up the sky like a a giant bolt of lightening. We watched it fall and literally braced for an aftershock of some kind. I’d never seen anything like it. This morning I learned that there had been reports of people seeing it in South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois- it really was that big. It was amazing.

 And pretty scary.

A few weeks ago my sister Erin’s car was stolen. My sister Alison had been driving it and had just come home from work on the night that it was stolen. When she woke up the next morning to leave for class it was gone.

The car has since been recovered (the man who we presume stole it  was pulled over in St Paul after a police officer randomly scanned the license plate and it came up stolen), but it’s being kept as evidence by the police and thus apparently cannot be driven. This has left my sister without a car.

Our insurance company covers a rental for up to 30 days after a vehicle is stolen but neither of my sisters were old enough to drive a rental. So, my sister is driving my car and I’m driving the rental!

When I showed up to the car rental place I was given only two vehicles to choose from: a minivan or a 2010 Dodge Challenger. I chose the Challenger.

I feel so out of place driving that car. It’s very different from my VW and it has a sea of blind spots while driving it. I’m not a fan.

I have the day off today! My plan is to find Chloe’s baby Julian a birthday present (he’s already turning 1!) and maybe hang with Dave later, if he isn’t busy. Exciting, I know.

The idea of moving from a VW up to a muscle car is amusing. How long will it be before you want to race someone when the light turns green? I need to go see if I can find that video/photo link. Hugs, Mark

I can’t believe Julian will be 1 already! Time certainly flies. And I would be terrified if I saw something like that. Absolutely terrified!

That’s freaking cool!!!! 🙂 That must’ve been a larger meteorite! 🙂 I wonder if my boy, who lives in the UP happened to see it. Amazing!
