Our New Digs *Edit: I’m going to Nanny!!
Well, I’m stressed out again. It’s a good kind of stress, but it’s stress none-the-less.
My sister Erin’s ex-boyfriend Nathan is looking for a roommate and place to crash June 1st! Erin sprung it on me this afternoon. Apparently Nathan’s roommate is moving out of the city and back to his (our… we’re all from the same place) hometown. Erin is looking for a roommate when our lease is up on August 1st, and now Nathan is also in need of a roommate! So, if you haven’t already figured it out, I’m moving out early! Nathan is going to move into our apartment and is going to take over my portion of the lease until it is over on August 1st! Woooo! I called Dave and he gave me the OK to call my friend and manager Angie at my place of work to hold the apartment that I’d had in mind. So, I did! We’re going to sign the paperwork sometime this week. Here’s the floorplan:

It’s a 1+den corner unit (which means we only have 1 neighbor! They share our bedroom wall. The kitchen wall is shared with the stairwell that leads to the parking garage). It’s on the first floor, which sucks, but it is elevated 10 feet…so really it’s not so bad. It faces north/northeast. It’s the largest 1+den that my building has, and it’s the same price as the others ($1085/month + we’ll have to pay heat, electricity, and water)! Also, the guy who is living there now is going to be out on May 1st, which gives maintenance a month to get all of the repairs in order (I’ve been in this apartment and I’ve seen how the guy who currently lives there has kept it… he’s a slob. The carpet needs replacing and the walls and ceiling desperately need repainting). I don’t know, I feel like we’re getting a pretty sweet deal. Everything is going to be new!
The main thing that I dislike about this floorplan is the walk-through closet in the bedroom that leads into the bathroom. I’m not a fan of walk-through closets… my closets are always a total mess. I’m also not a huge fan of the wall and door that separate the shower/bath from the sink and toilet. It just seems unnecessary to me. These are all minor problems, though. Clearly.
Oh, I’m so excited! I know that June 1st is going to come fast. I obviously haven’t started packing, though I do have all of the boxes that I’m going to need– a person who just moved in on April 1st gave me all of the boxes that she used. They’re broken down and are in the trunk of my car as we speak, so I can start any time I want to!
It’s going to be great!
**Edit: I just got a text message from Chloe… she and Jeremy want me to watch Julian when she goes back to work!! I’m so excited!! She’s calling me tomorrow to discuss times and payment.
Now, for a question: how much, exactly, should I expect for payment? I’m sure she’ll ask me that question, and I have no idea how much is appropriate! I mean, I’m not trying to make a killing here… I want to do this. I’m honored to be able to do this. At the same time, $15/day wouldn’t work for me. I need some income. She and Jeremy aren’t poor, but they aren’t millionaires, either. So what do you think?
I would look into the usual rates for child carers in the area, and maybe deduct a little to make it fair? How exciting for you!

That floor plan looks great! I am so giddy on your behalf; this sounds like so much fun. 🙂

most people would charge 20-25 a day. Its more for a day care, but less if its in the home. Could you live off of $125 a week? if so, thats a fair price

Random noter, That is a pretty sweet apartment layout! Also I think the going rate for childcare is about $35 or $40 a day per child 🙂
