Promotion! And.. a video of the new place
I got offered a full-time position at my job as a manager! My current manager Angie is demoting herself because she’s starting an internship this summer and won’t be able to find time to work full-time for the company and full-time for her internship. Too bad I’m already nannying for Chloe and Jeremy…
Okay, that came out wrong. I’m still extremely excited to watch Julian all summer. I’m just a little bummed because this full-time position would pay me double (literally, double) what Chloe and Jeremy have offered me. And that’s without the raise that I’d most certainly get from the promotion.
Granted, the nanny job is going to be infinitely less stressful. I know how much pressure they put on Angie (Angie and I were friends before I ever started working at the company. She’s actually the one who got me the job in the first place!). I don’t know that I’d be down for that kind of pressure. I mean, let’s face it: I don’t take my job very seriously there. I need the job (especially now that I’m going to be living there- an employee lease means that I can’t quit or get fired from there without losing the apartment that Dave and I are moving in to!), but for me it’s just another silly job that I have to do for the time being. It’s just another silly job that I use to pay my bills while I’m in school. It’s getting me from point A to point B. I’d probably make a pretty bad manager there because I just don’t take the job seriously enough. I slack off at any opportunity while I’m there- hell I’m bringing my homework with me to work today! Shhh…
So, I’m going to fill in until June 8th. Angie’s last day as a manager is May 20th and I’m going to take her place for that two week time span inbetween her last day and when my nanny job starts. That’s perfect for me because it’ll give me the opportunity to make a good chunk of extra money so that I won’t have to play catch-up all summer and it’ll give our boss a little extra time to find a person who fits well into the company.
Why would I need to play catch-up, you say? I guess I haven’t posted much about it here, but I.Am.BROKE. Oh god, am I broke. Like, ramen noodles broke. Like, so broke that I had to skip Dave’s future sister-in-law’s bachelorette party last night. The brokest I’ve ever been, broke. When all of my bills go through I’ll have $20 in my checking account to last me the next two weeks, broke.
So yeah, this opportunity couldn’t have been more perfect. I’ll still have to budget all summer long, but at least I won’t be so painfully broke that I can’t even go grocery shopping or put gas in my car.
I can’t wait until I’m done with school and have a real job. It’s going to be so nice when I don’t have to worry about things like this anymore! I can’t wait until the day comes when I only have to work 40 hour weeks with nothing extra on the weekends and not have to schedule extra work hours around what are already essentially work hours (classes, homework, lab, etc.). I can’t wait until the day that I get to start paying down my debts and stop making them.
Ugh, I’m ready to be a grown-up, now.
In somewhat related news, I wasted time at work yesterday by walking around mine and Dave’s new apartment! I took a video with my phone so that you guys can see it. It’s pretty standard, I think- but again it’s exactly the floorplan that I wanted and I’m sooooo excited to unpack all of my stuff and to go furniture shopping and all of that jazz. In a previous entry I mentioned that the only shared wall in this unit is the bedroom wall, but I was wrong. The only shared wall in this unit is the kitchen wall! Even better! We really did get lucky to get one of these corner units… many of them have long-term residents in them, so they don’t open up very often.
Anyway, this is what you get for $1100/month +utilities in a nice, quiet suburb with a 10 minute drive to downtown Minneapolis.
And to give you a better idea what you’re looking at, here’s the floorplan:

Our apartment is the mirror image of this floorplan example, though. So the kitchen is on the left, the living room is on the left, the bedroom is on the right, etc. Does that make sense?

1100 would get you a room in san francisco. I can’t even believe this. AWESOME.

I second Hydra’s opinion. It’s awesome! for 1100, you can’t EVEN get a room in NYC! SO jealous! Are you going to go for the promotion?
