World Series of Poker update, food, and shopping.

It’s nearing the end of day one C at the WSOP and as far as I know all of the guys are still in. At last check (maybe an hour ago?) Dave’s friend Jay was hovering right around 50k in chips which is above average overall. Dave just sent me a message indicating that he’s at 86k in chips with an hour left of day one. It’s looking as though they all may make it to day two… but nothing is certain in no limit hold ’em. Things can change in an instant.

My friend Chloe has been in the hospital for the last week because she was having contractions (she’s currently 25 weeks pregnant with baby # 2, a girl named Alexa). Apparently Alexa’s heart rate kept dropping (which indicates to me that Alexa may be sitting on her cord and that her blood supply is getting compromised when Chloe is contracting… but what do I know?!). She was released from the hospital this afternoon and all is looking well but she’s to remain on bed rest for the next month at least. The doctor told her that she’s only allowed to get up to use the bathroom!

When I first found out that Chloe was being admitted to the hospital I sent her a text stating, "I’m pretty sure that you’re supposed to eat mint chocolate chip ice cream when you’re on bed rest. It’s practically doctor’s orders. I’m going to visit and bring some for you!" Unfortunately my week ended up being very hectic and I never made it to the hospital. We kept in touch and she was never alone- Jeremy and Julian (her husband and child) were there often and her mother came from our hometown to spend the week with her also. That doesn’t mean that I don’t feel a little bad, though!

Anyway, because I didn’t make it to the hospital and because Chloe is going to have to remain on bed rest for the next month I’ve decided to put together a couple of dinners for her and her family to eat in addition to the quart of mint chocolate chip ice cream that I’m bringing over to her house tomorrow afternoon. I have a crockpot of beef stew going in my kitchen right now along with a dozen whole wheat buns that are baking in the oven (I plan on tossing them into a freezer bag and freezing them- that way when they decide to eat the stew they can remove them from the bag and toss them into the oven for a couple of minutes until they’re warm). Tomorrow morning I’m going to throw together my famous (to Dave, anyway ðŸ™‚ ) from scratch chicken pot pie also. I figure the stew can be frozen if need be- they can eat that any time within the next couple of weeks- and the pot pie will be left unbaked and refrigerated (that can be eaten within the next day or two after an hour or so in the oven). I know that they’ll appreciate it- none of them will probably be eating much in terms of home-cooked food with Chloe stuck in bed.

On an entirely different note- I went shopping for business attire yesterday! I spent SIX HOURS and way too much money at the mall after I dropped Dave off at the airport, but it was entirely necessary. I blew hundreds at Banana Republic on knee length skirts and dress pants in every earth tone imaginable (well, aside from blue)- I looooooooooooooooove their 323 and Sloan fit pants. I’m totally and completely in love. I bought a bunch of comfy flats in white, brown, black, and peachy pink from Steve Madden and Aldo, some new necklaces from all over the place, and some really pretty blouses from Express, Banana, Macy’s, and Nordstrom’s. Aaand I’m not done. I need more shirts and sweaters. I need more jewelry. I took one look at the tops that I bought yesterday and came to the realization that I really only bought tops in cream and white. Clearly I need more color than that.

I know that this is all very, very interesting. Thank you for staying with me… or at least pretending to. 🙂

Sometimes I wish that I could dress up a bit more for work – I mean, I could if I wanted to but we’re so casual that sometimes I crave dressier clothes!

Wow, that is a lot of money the guys are playing with! I am sure the Chloe and her husband will appreciate the meals you are making for them. It must be awfully boring to be on bedrest and I am sure it will be a little hectic trying to take care of everything. They will love some delicious meals!
