WSOP
Well, it’s that time of year again. Today I’m dropping Dave off at the airport with a one way ticket to Vegas… for over the next couple of days (maybe even weeks?) he and his friends will once again try their hand at the world series of poker’s main event.
That’s a $10,000 buy in per person. At least 10 of those guys are playing this year. That’s at least $100,000, tossed to the wind over a coin flop. Oh, the things that I could do with $100k.
It’s not all about winning for those guys- that I can understand. And for a lot of these guys $10k is nothing- I’ve watched a couple of them win and lose much more than that on a single hand. They go because it’s fun. They play the other WSOP tournaments because they know that their odds are better (I think that they’ve all now cashed at least once in other WSOP tournaments and one of them placed 6th in a limit hold’em tournament last week), but more than anything they go because they enjoy going.
The fourth was glorious. Dave and I joined his family at his cousin’s house in a town 4 hours north of the city. It’s the same place that we went last year for the 4th. The weather was spotty (it was extremely humid and very, very windy on Saturday, stormy all Saturday night, and on Sunday the high only hovered around 75 degrees- so it wasn’t entirely bathing suit weather) but we all had a fabulous time anyway.
Dave and I stayed in a hotel room 10 minutes from his cousin’s place- a hotel room with a huge jacuzzi tub in the sitting area of the room. We took baths together nightly, had phenomenal sex all weekend, and slept in late each morning.
I’m always sad to see him go when he travels, but the anticipation of seeing him when he comes back almost makes up for it. If the sex is unreal when we see eachother almost daily then you can just about imagine what it’s like when we haven’t seen eachother for a while. Or maybe not.
I have nearly the entire week off of work. I start my new job this coming Monday. I’m really looking forward to it but am also slightly nervous. I need to go shopping for more business attire. I have a feeling that the sundresses and casual trendy clothes that I wear as a restaurant manager aren’t going to fly in the office of an insurance company.
Dave just texted: he’s ready to go! I’m out; I’ll keep you all updated as to how the tournament treats Dave and his friends.
Wow, that’s a big buy in! But I know they enjoy that sort of stuff; that’s what they do. I wish them luck and hope they do well!

casual trendy clothes may work, call your office and see what they prefer. Some want their women on skirts, some are ok with pants. ( i work in an insurance office)
