Random Obligatory Thoughts
I’ve had terrible sleep habits lately. Apparently I can’t fathom that just because I can sleep until 1:00 in the afternoon doesn’t mean that I should sleep until 1:00 in the afternoon. Nor do I seem to understand that, just because I won’t necessarily have to get up early the next morning, that in itself is not a good reason to stay online talking to Brittainy and Erin until 4:30 AM.
I’m off from the university until Monday for Thanksgiving Break. I’m going to hop home to the farm as usual for Thanksgiving – I’ve actually only managed to make it home twice since I started living in Athens (and once was for a job interview). I know that my absence is hard on my parents, primarily my mother. I hate being an only child, since it means that the burden of taking care of my parents as they continue to age (they’re already both currently in their upper-50’s) is going to be entirely on me. Seeing as I don’t want to live in Georgia for the rest of my life (and I especially don’t want to live in the cities surrounding my parents’ farm for the rest of my life) this is a dilemma. I don’t really know how I’m going to deal with it.
And that’s my entry for today.
Hmmm, I’m sure one of the reasons I had 3 kids was to increase the chances that ONE of them would take care of me when I’m old, dribbly and cranky….

Don’t worry, my sleeping habits are really messed up too. 🙂

I hate when my sleep habits get messed up! I tell my parents all the time they are going in a nursing home the moment they shit themselves…Of course I don’t mean it and they know it’s a joke but man, I’m glad I’m not an only child.

Mm. I like that you left the html in plain source code. It’s very hip. 🙂 Also, that you posted it twice, double hip.

hopefully your parents are healthy and it won’t be an issue for a long while. but still, i know what you mean. about living in georgia for the rest of your life, too. i understand that perfectly. i feel the same way about nc.

I am an only child as well; I know exactly what you mean. I’m the same way when it comes to sleeping, especially once I get in the habit of sleeping like crap. *hugs*

I’m one of three or four children (depending on the parent) and I know I’m going to be the one taking care of them. How bluh. And no fair. It’s because I’m the middle child.

This is typical of “normal” college life, too. I think I’m starting to break the habit myself. and ryn Yes, I do know who you mean. Incidentally, I have a friend who wants to get the insignia from the one ring tattooed on him. Zach told him he’d die in a pool of lava if he did.

Oh I think not having to get up early the next day is a fine reason to talk to me all night. Psh.

If your parents are healthy, upper 50s isn’t old at all. You can go live somewhere else for 25 years and come back to georgia then. This all sounds vaguely fantastical to me, but isn’t that how things normally work? I always forget about this thanksgiving thing, even after years of opendiary.

It’s too bad your phone fakes bad reception at the farm. AHEM. I understand the taking care of the parents thing. Seriously, I do. I guess you get to a point where you have to make a choice on whether to pursue your dreams or to stick around. Also remember that apparently there’s no hot girls in Georgia. We’re all in California and Arizona. Come find us.
