Beware! Flying Futon

Well this weekend was a real bust. Nothing went as planned and things that weren’t planned happened.

I stayed up kind of late on Friday night. Nothing to do and nothing to watch on TV or DVD so I just putzed until I grew too tired to stay up any more.

I had to be up early Saturday morning to meet with one of the guys from work who wants me to do some tiling at his house. I had to meet him around ten and I wound up leaving Greg in bed sleeping. I would rather have stayed there with him but I made a promise so that was that.

I met up with Michael about half past ten and was shocked to find out how big of a job it was going to be. Almost too big for me to want to take on. I’ve done tiling before in my old house and here in our house now but I’ve never done it to make money. I agreed to do another co-worker’s tile job but it was considerably smaller. Frank only had two adjoining rooms, both square and one hallway. Basically a weekend job for $1500 cash in my pocket. This tile job for Michael (and no, not Mike my boss) was three big rooms of odd shapes and sizes and two very long hallways.

When I got back home, three hours later after measuring and looking at his tile and talking with he and his wife I was beside myself. I hadn’t agreed to do the job, only to provide an estimate but I felt kind of obligated. What’s worse is that to make it worth my while and my time and labor I’m gonna have to charge him about three grand. It won’t be easy. I have much to work on and think about with this one.

Greg was already up when I got home. Ok, I called him while I was on my way to see if he was up. He was since I called him. We were going to try to handle a couple of things today including heading up to my kids house to drop off my brand new futon that I no longer use and take a bed they don’t use either. I was gonna put the bed in our guest room and use it for Jonathan since he’s going to be staying with me three nights a week for school. I don’t want him sleeping on the pullout couch or the futon when he has to go to school the next morning so I thought this was a good idea.

We loaded the futon up in Greg’s truck and I was gonna follow behind him in my jeep since I was going to bring Courtney and Kyle back to my house. Margaret was going out to a party that night and asked me if I could watch them. I didn’t mind in the least. Greg took off and I was about two minutes behind him. Just as I was getting on the highway I got a call from him. By the time I heard what he was saying I was pulling up on him on the highway. The futon had flown out the back of his truck and gotten caught up underneath it. The futon had been dragged for as long as it took Greg to come to a stop. There were pieces of it all along side the road. A total loss!

After we finally got to the kids house and picked up the bed, Kyle wasn’t home from my mother’s house and Courtney wasn’t ready to go. Jonathan needed to go to work so I took him and Margaret said she’d drop Kyle and Courntey off on her way out. The party started at six o’clock so I figured it wouldn’t be long. Jonathan had to be to work by five o’clock so there wasn’t going to be much time in between to do anything else I wanted so Greg and I went back to the house and waited for the kids.

When Margaret finally showed up, after several phone calls telling me she was on the way, it was eight o’clock at night and the kids hadn’t eaten. On top of that, I hadn’t been shopping yet cuz I didn’t think there would be time so off we went to go grocery shopping at half past eight. By the time we finished and got home it was after nine and my little dude was getting cranky. I quickly whipped up dinner and he was asleep in his high chair before he was finished.

Margaret didn’t come get them until 2:00 am. She told me the party was over at ten but I knew when she was that late getting out she’d be home late. I wish this had been better planned so I could have put everyone to bed and not have to wake them up to go home.

Sunday Greg and I spent the early part of the day giving Woody (the dog) a hair cut and then came the football games. Both our teams lost so neither of us was very cheery. After my game I started doing some cleaning. Laundry hadn’t gotten done yet so I went about that and tidying up the kitchen and den.

Before I knew it the day was over and it was time to get to bed for work in the morning.

Nice weekend, huh?
