What’s been happening in the land of JayeL?

Things have gone extremely well of late, for some reason. And I’m very thankful of this; although to whom, I don’t know. A lot of my recent good fortune happened after I saw Religulous, which pokes fun at the whole idea of religion. If it happens, it happens. Who knows why? And more importantly, why make up a mythology to try and explain it all? The hardest thing for religious people to do is say “You know what? I don’t know. And anyone who says they do shouldn’t be trusted.”

So that’s me. I’m not an atheist because I think it’s impossible for there not to have been something beyond our comprehension that began what we call time. Something that created matter and provoked this incredible expanding universe; especially since we have no idea what it’s expanding into. Sometimes I see someone like Richard Dawkins as one side of a coin, with religion on the other. Both think they have the answers. There’s no answer; just live in peace.

In other news, we bought flights to Florida in October (did I mention we’re off to the USA in October for a wedding involving two former-ish ODers?), a drill, spirit level and measuring tape – all of which were employed in a mass hanging I had on Saturday involving some gorgeous renaissance-era hand-painted prints of Europe and the world that we bought in San Gimignano after we got married. Oh, and it paid for those to be mounted and framed.

We also got a big print of an American diner as we frequented a few on our NYC honeymoon (and also have a thing for Eddie Rockets).

Observez-vous:

The diner print

World map (with very vague idea of Australia and Alaska)

a broadly-ok map of europe from 1642 - they left out wales (check out our sexy piano!)
“A New Mappe of the Romane Empire”

little print of san gimignano over the lamp
One small frame at the door

Anyway, we’re off to Kerry this Thursday to see Luke, my godson. Well, future godson. Catherine’s brother’s wife had a baby on 21 March (big one too, 8lbs 11oz) and I was asked to be his godfather. A baptism will roll around in 2 months or so; right now, it’s all about the little fella basking in all the attention a newborn deserves. I have photos of him on my Facebook but it’d be weird to stick them up here, in public like.

Hmmm, that was rather responsible of me…..
