Gwen age 14 died.

At the age of 14 Gwendolyn lost the abilitiy to walk.  The pain was so unbearable that despite the three pills she was given she couldn’t walk because of the pain.  The tumor in her fatty tissues on her chest also opened up.  My mom called the country vet (the one that comes out to the animals including horses and farm dogs), and they had to put her down.  My mom made sure they buried her in a very dignified way.  This was last tuesday.  I phoned (which I do nearly every week) and today I learned my family dog died.  Now they are in Central California where they had been having for over 10 days over 110degree weather, the heat so bad that so many cows have died that the company that picks up dead cows has started to refuse.  So before I know what she passed away from I had to ask if it was heat related as my mom had her roof not just the tiles but the ENTIRE roof off and rebuilt during the wicked heat wave.  I was glad to know the heat didn’t take my dog, but simply age.  Rottweilers don’t usually live to be such a great age as they are a large breed dog and 7-9 is a good life span.

I am very sad.  She was a great dog, and had been a great friend when I was going through some really rough years in my late teens.

The phone call to my mom’s house wasn’t all bad news, the roof is back up enough that the air conditioning could be put up and they now have AC, although the temps have finally dropped to below 100 degrees, 93 is the expected high.  My brother did well on his ASVAB test and physical test for the Navy, and he’ll be off to boot camp in May.  Navy was a nice choice as he’s not off to Iraq, he is going to be a large machine maintenence guy, mostly learning to repair heavy constrution machinary, something that Caltrans has a large need of, so it’ll get him a good state job when he’s ready to get out.

My mom is still very weepy about our dog, but she has a baby kitten she had to hand feed that is being really good to her right now, always crawling up for love.  Lady Luck is now two months old so she’s out of the baby kitten age and into the kitten age.  Mom told me a story about her that one morning my mom went to use the bathroom Lucky was sitting down in front of her getting ready to pounce and my mom took notice and before she could even finish the thought, what is she about to do, the baby had pounced into her underwear, used her back paws to springboard off them and onto my mom’s chest right under her chin to be cuddled, full of purrs.  That is one of the cutest kitten stories I’ve heard in awhile and telling it helped my mom stop being weepy over Gwen, which in turn helped me as well.

I’m gonna have my mom send any pictures she might have, young and old of her.  Gonna break out photoshop and make a graphic, print it off on picture paper and send it to be framed.
