Johnson City

I’m in Johnson City, TN as I write this.  The love is working for ASP (Appalachian Service Project) again this summer, as a "Summer Program Manager".  She’s in charge of Morgan, Scott, Johnson, and Greene County.  I’m in charge of cutting the grass at her place, as it seems no one else does it.  So on the weekends that I visit, I borrow the neighbors lawnmower and cut the grass.  The neighbors are pretty cool.

Right now it’s 12:42 in the afternoon and I’m drinking someone’s Natty Light.  Apparently, no else drinks it – but I’m not one to let go to waste.  Rachel wants me to show her how to work the lawnmower (love that idea) when she’s off of work, so I’m waiting for that.  It would be great if she cut the lawn on the weekends when I’m not here – that way the grass isn’t 2 ft. high.

Anyway, the only money I have right now is in my IRA.  I’m gonna take some of that out for the first couple of months rent in Harrisonburg, while I look for a job.  I move in August 5th, and I’m pretty excited. – So Rachel has been paying for everything…which I’m okay with.  I payed for everything when I could, and now she is doing the same.  (I hope she takes us out this weekend! – There’s a bar here called New Beginnings that’s s’posed to be pretty fun.)

The farm is doing well.  The Guinea Hens had babies!!!  They layed a TON of eggs, and a whole bunch of them hatched!!!  The little Guinea babies (they are called Keets) are soooo cute!  We’ve got most of them in a water trough, with food and water and a heat lamp over them.  But there are two little ones that we couldn’t catch, who are being raised by their Mama.  It’s so fun to watch them run around.  🙂

We got six chickens too!  Four of them don’t mind being petted either, so that’s pretty cool.  (I didn’t know chickens could be nice.)  They are laying about 5 eggs a day now.  And the eggs keep on getting bigger and bigger!  Every time I visit someone, I bring them eggs – but we still have a bunch.  I don’t know what we’re gonna do with all these damn EGGS!

The cows are excellent, as usual.  I invited my chemistry professor, Dr. Barry, out to the farm not long ago.  He really enjoyed the sights and sounds and smells and conversation.  It was good to see him again – I like Dr. Barry (He also bought me lunch at the corner market – which was pretty fuckin’ awesome).

Well, I better get to work:

  • Update computer shit
  • Shower
  • Apply for jobs
  • Drink more free beer
  • Re-introduce Rachel to LawnMower
  • EAT!!!

There’s probably more.  🙂  Later!
