what a day, what a world, what a life

it is a weird, disconcerting feeling to hear bad news on the television whilst trying to sell cars.  i heard about the newton shootings in the showroom while happy-holiday muzac twinkled down around me, i heard about the boston bombing while happy 80’s muzac assaulted my auditory.

dark humor among my fellow car salesman was quick to appear.  the jamaican, he’s really jamaican, started in with the immediate conspiracies.  my favorite one was ‘whose ever flag was by the explosion, dems da ones dat done it…"  the noregian flag was the first flag i saw, then i saw the canadian flag and then, oh yeah there was the irish flag, and then then i saw the the british flag.  i pointed that out to him and said ‘i’m blaming the jamaicans."  yeah, it was probably in poor taste, but come on…

its times like this i’m glad i don’t have cable or direct tv, or even for that matter, an antennae.  i am, essentially, tv-less.  i’ve had any of those i’m sure i’d be sitting in front of the tv watching the same looped footage of the blast, the oldish runner, being knocked off his feet and then the pandemonium.  over and over again, ad nauseum, it would be so much fun.  i’m sorry im missing it.

so many things went through my head so quick, its tough to remember them all.  my cynical side thought, oh great, now they are going to want to ban garbage cans because a garbage can exploded.  next thing was: welcome to Israel, or Baghdad, or Kabul, take your pick.  then my history kicked in, its right around this time of year that the following happened: Hitler was born, Waco burned, and Oklahoma City went boom.  some of my coworkers started saying, oh it has to be a terrorist.  i’m sure it is, but, sadly, i’ll bet dollars to donuts it is a extremist who hates the government and the media, if they ever find the guy or perpetrators will have a field day with that!  sorry, my cynicism has been flowing all day.

and i hear sit, in my room, listening to classical music.  what a day, what a world, what a life.

I’m watching the SCI-FI channel… for the debut of Defiance… Im not watching thew news!:) it goes from The TWO TOWERS To their new drama series… So that is what im watching to nite!:) a tv premire!

RYN: Yes, tomorrow the sun will come up and the birds will chrip – you couldn’t be more right. Thanks for the reminder. It is weird when we learn of terrible events while just going about our normal lives – it’s just become part of our world. On one hand horrified but on the other hand becoming somewhat desensitized by it all. Damn I could use some classical music about now. 🙂
