lyrics

I couldn’t tell you why she felt that way
But she felt it everyday.
And I couldn’t help her
I just watched her make the same mistakes again.

 What’s wrong, what’s wrong now?
Too many, too many problems
Don’t know where she belongs, where she belongs.
She wants to go home
But nobody’s home
It’s where she lies–broken inside
With no place to go
no place to go
To dry her eyes–broken inside

Open your eyes and look outside
Find the reasons why
You’ve been rejected,
and now you can’t find what you left behind

Be strong, be strong now.
Too many, too many problems
Don’t know where she belongs, where she belongs.
She wants to go home
but nobody’s home
It’s where she lies–broken inside.
With no place to go
no place to go
To dry her eyes–broken inside.

(bridge)
Her feelings she hides.
Her dreams she can’t find.
She’s losing her mind.
She’s fallen behind.
She can’t find her place.
She’s losing her faith.
She’s fallen from grace.
She’s all over the place…

She wants to go home
but nobody’s home
It’s where she lies–broken inside.
With no place to go
no place to go
To dry her eyes–broken inside.

I’m not ashamed to like this song (Avril Lavigne). Before I even heard it, I was reading the CD insert (my sister’s a huge fan) and I saw these lyrics. I really like them, and I think they’re very insightful in terms of describing a girl whose world is falling apart around her (especially for an 18 year old songwriter who’s never experienced clinical depression). Now that it’s all over the radio, I can’t help but think of my life as it pertains to this song. Not only that I’ve been there as the girl, but that I’ve been there as the songwriter too–watching someone struggle to keep her grip on the world, and not being able to do anything about it except sit by her and hope she can be strong for long enough to win the war. I’ve been there in the past, and I’m there right now.

You know who you are.

I’ve been on both sides of the story too, one way or another.

RYN: no, skank, I dun care about notes so much. Just need to take a break from things. Try to get my focus back on what’s actually important. We’ll see. Either way, I’m not putting any of the blame on you guys – I just need to work shit out, as usual. Hope you’re having a good time on break. : ) -Me

RYN: Well, yes, I absolutely give up the decision to you guys whether you want to read or not, just by making the entries public. And I’m glad you do. I just get annoyed with my constant state of grumpiness, so I assume other people must get annoyed with it as well. Either way, it’s useful to have a place to bitch. 🙂 Hope you’re having good fun, and hope to talk to you sometime soon. Luff,

I also was really drawn to the lyrics of that song the first time I heard it, even though I’m not a huge Avril Lavigne fan. But I’ve been there, I mean watching someone who’s world is falling apart and not knowing exactly what to do about it. In fact I’ve been there more than once. Once when I was far too young to handle it and once again when I was older. I realized all I could do was be there.
