I left yesterday at 2:15 in the afternoon and rolled into my friend’s driveway 25 hours and seven minutes later.  From Monday to Saturday this week, I drove nearly as many miles as I did in the months since the last real roadtrip I made, to Bend in the last days of my summer break, 2874 miles in four months.

(that’s 46.5 miles an hour, average, for the distance, and it’s a Very Good time)

One thousand sixty-one miles in 25 hours.  Sort of a personal best, and given that the Siskiyou pass on the California/Oregon border was packed snow, and that a few dozen of us had to wait 20 minutes while they cleared two wrecks on the pass, I think I did really well.  Of course, since I was short of time, I made the drives as fast as I could, within reason.  Coulda used that cruise control on the way back.

Other than the Sisikous, I had no problems down or back.  Cali-Blue cruises nicely on the biggest tires and wheels I’ve ever had on one of my cars, and gets the best mileage of any I’ve owned.  A quick check half way up showed 34 miles a gallon at 70+ miles an hour … of gas that cost no more (except in one case) than 2 dollars a gallon, I’ve driven it 12,542 miles since last February, and nothing has gone wrong with it or stopped working.  I love my car.

But, 25 hours of driving – I did grab three naps, but yeooow, sleeping in 20 some degree weather, like I found on this trip, is at best a short and not optimum substitute for real rest.

I’m home, Blacky is fed, and re-fed, and I don’t have to work on a Saturday night for the first time in I donno how long… and that over there is MY OWN bed.

Glad you made it home safe. I cannot imagine driving that many hours. But of course, I don’t have a very nice car like yours. 🙂 Get some good rest and give Blacky some extra loves. Good night!!!

nice to be home for sure!!…. 🙂

Welcome home! That is a great time. I drove with the kids down to Clearwater FLorida in 24.5 hours. We didn’t stop to rest on the way down but were caught up and drove extremely slow in fog through out the night in IL. I think it was just over 1000 miles.

It’s good to be home at the end of it all. Did Blacky Cat give you H*ll for being absent?

Maybe I should take a pic of Chelsea and show it to Blacky. I wonder if he would react at all. I have this really odd pic of her…..
