9 days later pt9
hmm. My birthday was more than nine days back now, and this series is lengthening out. The pictures do evoke memories and recall sensations – it was a pretty good March day in the Gorge.
Cascade Locks is a nice stop:

Bridge of The Gods
(a modern bridge with a very old name. A very large volcanic eruption blocked the river here, until the river broke through in a series of cascades. It was possible, once, to walk across the Columbia, a very long time ago. It still lives in the oral histories of the people who have lived here for thousands of years)

From here westbound, the Old Columbia River Highway is not too far, and on my birthday there was no question as to whether or not to take the Interstate or the Old Highway – c’mon along.
