A couple of good pictures

Ok, four pictures really, but the above sounded better.

This is Hug Point, on the Oregon coast, south of Cannon Beach:

This felt so "olde western":

This is Crooked River Gorge, in central Oregon on US Highway 97, 8/8/07.  I wouldn’t have been surprised to see a bunch of Marlboro men riding out of the shadows.  Those are mountains in the Cascade Range that divides the state, one third to the west and two thirds to the east of the mountains, which are rain shadows on the lands to the east; eastern Oregon is a lot drier than western Oregon, where I live.  It really reminds me of the Southwest on the east side.

I used to be, back in the early days of my internet access, SouthwesternCat.

It occurred to me though, that I’ve lived in the Northwest much longer than anywhere else; I must like it here or something.

I mean, there’s stuff like this:

Crater Lake, Oregon

I love to show off Oregon; it’s the most beautiful of the 35 states I’ve been in.  The most beautiful in general, of course, cuz there are Beautiful Places in other states, but Oregon has a lot of beautiful places, and overall, I like it best.

In the Navy days in the early 80’s, the slogan they had was "Join the Navy and see the world!".  I didn’t see a whole awful lot of the world, but I was in 27 states because of the Navy – every time I got transferred, I drove, on their dime.

I did get to spend a winter in the Carribean in the Navy:

This sunset was at Charlotte Amalie, US Virgin Islands, 1983.  It was so cool to go there on someone else’s dime.  Course, it was a "working passage"; I was an engineer on a navy frigate.

That water is so BLUE! Crater Lake? Lovely beach. And sunset.

I’m a sucker for water reflections photos and this one is so good with the warm colours of the rock and sand against the cool colours of the water and trees.

When I took my daughters down the Oregon coast they loved it. We stopped at almost every lookout it seemed! They loved the eastern part of the state driving the back roads. They said the little farms in the mountains looked like out of Lord of the Rings… Happy Thanksgiving Cat.
