A full day of work
Well, not WORK, but training for my work: a full day of First Aid and advice for us to help our clients/customers. PAID training, by the way, and a new, 2 year Red Cross card at the conclusion of the training.
Tomorrow, I will drive the 30 miles west and meet my 17 year old client, a girl who suffered an ‘acquired" brain injury, and who is older in years than in her mental state. I hear she’s "a good girl" who responds to people trying to help her.
I guess I’ll see for myself tomorrow. I will be meeting her and the adult whose home she’s living in – going by myself. I’ll spend a few hours with her and get to know her, as she gets to know me, and we’ll plan some activities for the summer.
I guess I’m "a professional" now; that’s what they called us in class today. A professional might have some better plan than I do at the moment. I’ll have to study her ISP, her service plan more in depth.
It has begun, the new job, and maybe this is THE JOB I’m meant to do. I lost my parents when I was 15 – I have some understanding of that loss. I was severely injured in a car crash 15 years ago, and KNOW about recovery and how to re-learn things. I am a NICE GUY; polite, soft-spoken, and considerate and empathetic.
I may not have an exact clue as to how I’m going to act or what I’m going to do, yet, but I will. I can do this job and I will be good at it.
