Beyond Wakeena Falls

I "found" a couple of "new" waterfalls in the gorge last year and had to show my friend from Japan.

Wakeena Falls ("Wakeena" means "most beautiful" in a local Indian language) has it’s own parking area on The Old Highway which I was in the habit of driving right by.  I finally stopped there last year and found that Wakeena Falls is most beautiful:

Walking up to the falls and looking up. it seems like there might be an Upper Wakeena Falls….

So we kept walking up. And up, and UP some more.

By this point on the trail, we had gained about 1,300 feet above the parking lot.

I saw some intersting things on that trail:

The scale of things here is larger than at home….

This is, I found out later, a loop trail between the highway at Wakeena Falls, Angel’s Rest lookout, on the Columbia Pleateau above the river, and the parking lot for Angel’s Rest Trail.

I’ll do that one another day.  We turned around and walked back down, past that stellar viewpoint:

And on past the falls:

Stay tuned please, lot’s more Columbia Gorge pics for me to post.
