Christmas surprise/followup

A good Christmas?

*

I got an overnight delivery letter package tonight.

From my brother, whom I haven’t seen for 18 years.

It is a Christmas card.

*

There is an addess and a phone number.

I have free long-distance on my cell phone.

I know I should call.

*

I feel some trepidation – it’s been so long.

I got in touch with him a few years ago – some friend of his found me on an alumni website and put us in touch but we didn’t stay in touch very long.  The phone number I had for him soon became someone else’s and there was no reply to my letters and cards.

I gave up.

*

Tonight I recieved the FedEx overnight delivery.  OMG.

*

I will call shortly.

Followup.

39 minutes on the phone with my brother.

I will be making a card for him with this address on it- the OD address, I mean.  He found my residence address and sent that card overnight and is (am I) happy that I called.

Things happened and stuff occurred and we lost touch after reconnecting in 2003.  His room-mate lost the xmas card I sent last year and my brother didn’t get it for weeks- and I was thinking, "well, that’s that- I dunno where he is".

When we reconnected in 03, I had found some of my dad’s money that the vultures missed and was so so happy that I could send him all the paperwork needed to get his share.  I was disappointed to lose touch with him, and figured that maybe he got the loot and that was that.

Like I said, things happened, and he didn’t send off any of the paperwork until YESTERDAY.  The State is required to respond within 120 days, so by April, he will get thousands that California has been holding for 28 years.

Think of all the interest.

Think of our interest!

I will make him a card- I have some card stock left, and will include this address, because this is where I am these days.  He’ll have to find some help to get online and check out my stuff, but no problem.

We have reconnected.  I am happy.

I found my brother.

I got a call from my “big” brother tonight, whom I haven’t talked to in almost a year. He wants me to wire him $100. Wish I hadn’t talked to him 🙂

well Cat, give him a call…what have you got to lose? Let us know the outcome if you can. ~the feline~

The BESTEST gift Cat. I’m soooooo happy for you!!!

Please call very shortly. I lost my sister in a heartbeat 2 weeks ago. Luckily, we were on good terms and I had just seen her the week before.

Cat I am SO happy for you! What a wonderful outcome from that phone call! I am glad you have heard from your brother again…and I hope this time you will be able to stay in touch with him. What a wonderful Christmas present! (((HUGS))) ~the feline~ 😉

So…you’ve added on to this entry. I’m glad you reconnected with your brother…maybe that will be another 2005 highlight. It will be absolutely awesome if you get to share some of those funds as well (fingers crossed). RYN: clears throat…curling is a sport played on a narrow strip of ice. 40 lb granite stones with handles afixed are sild towards a bull eye. Think of shuffleboard on…

It’s like your very own little christmas miracle! I love this. I’m so happy for you.

This ain’t anything like the same ol same ol.

December 22, 2005

…a grand scale. The brooms are for sweeping directly in front of the stones to keep them from curving too much or to speed them up. It’s great fun. Four people to a team (rink) throw two rocks each alternating with their counterparts on the other team. Closest stones of one kind to the centre spot (the button) score in each each end (pass down the ice). There are 8-10 ends in a game.

I used to throw third stones because I was good at a variety of shots. It’s not exactly a national sport in the USA I guess!

That’s wonderful!

Congratulations, Cat. That is GREAT that you and your brother have found each other again and will be communicating! 😀 And the money sure isn’t too shabby either!

I literally have tears in my eyes. I am soo sooooo SO thrilled for you. I also have a kitten chasing the words across the screen as I type…arg. seriously, I am really happy for you. My day has been a total bummer (well almost) and now I can go to bed happy. Maybe not for myself, but for someone I have grown to care about and respect. linette

woohoo! i am so happy for you! sending additional hugs.

What a wonderful Christmas gift! 🙂 ~

Hooray for a long lost brother. I hope you guys can remain in touch. Ref your note about the Japanese POW. Yes, the feeling of shame at being captured recurs frequently in the book. It becomes a problem for all the POWs in the who have to explain to each other why they did not die fighting. By the way, the author of the book mentioned that there was about 700 other POWs in the camp.

This was surprising to me. This was in the Phillipines. In some battles/places, like when we took Siapan, there were very very few POWs if any. On that Island and when we retook the Alutians, I don’t recall that there were any POWs taken. It was an expected tactic for a Japanese unit to make a “death” charge with fixed bayonets when it become apparant that defeat was inevitable.
