Friday misc
The car repair I did last night in the fading light of the day (and the batteries in my flashlight died too) was sucessful. I didn’t hear the cooling system boiling, no funny knocking sounds, and I didn’t lose any more cooling fluid.
It was pretty warm out this morning, but I didn’t have to use the A/C much. The air intake of the van is just above the hood, and it draws in hot air, especially when I drove out of the P&D building after getting my papers for the south route and the Portland route. I only ran the A/C for a few blocks to cool off the air coming in, but didn’t keep it on.
It would seem, especially to my readers, that the van has been one problem after another, but it really hasn’t. I passed the 18,000 mile mark this morning. I have driven the van 18,000 miles since I got it out of an impound yard last year. The things I have replaced are things that commonly wear out anyway, so it was just timing more than anything else. The van is a willing beast and wants to work.
I want it to work too.
I once had a brand new Toyota 4×4 pickup truck. We bought it for cash off a lot in Maine and we (more correctly, I) put nearly 70,000 miles on it – four times coast to coast in the US, up and down both coasts, a trip to New Brunswick, Canada, and two (I think) to Mexico. It always ran well and needed nothing, cuz it was brand new- turn the key and go. It’s only been later in life that I valued that highly…not sure why, now, that I wanted it to "need" something.
On other subjects, my foot is healing (or heeling, as one fav put it) and seems to be up to working for me. It is still uncomfortable, and if I twist the foot, I get a sharp reminder of why I souldn’t do that yet, but all in all, it works ok and doesn’t hurt that much. ( I ran out of Vicoden days ago, but I’ve been told that I have a high tolerance for pain) As I write, I am wearing the air cast the doc gave me, and I have even slept with it a few times, but overall, my foot seems to be healing and is not getting ugly. (I’ve been looking at my feet much more than usual, and gee, I don’t think I have bad looking feet, lol)
I will not be delivering the Sunday papers anymore, so I will not be working in the daylight at all now. I won’t be drivng the white stepvan anymore either. I will be delivering the Saturday papers tonight/tomorrow morning, but no more Sundays, first or final, for me.
This means that I will be working early Sat. morning, before sunrise (after sunrise, this time of year) but I will not be working Sat. night or Sunday until nearly midnight. I’ll lose a little of what I used to earn, but I will have a more consistant schedule, one that I may be able to work around it and get another PT job.
I am living more or less the life I foresaw. Of course to live THE life, I have to get busy and write… because part of the foreseeing was to be a known author. I am here, in a real way, but gee, maybe you’ll see me on Oprah someday too. One of my favs offered to edit my writings, and I probably will do that – give them to her to edit and put together… Just have to write it. Lucky for me, memoirs are popular these days, cuz that’s what I’ll write, the story I know best. The story I have lived.
There is a very large part of my life I’ve said little about yet. I need to make sure I’m not confessing to indictable offenses, you know. Stay tuned, it gets more interesting.

I think you should start with an auto-biogrphy. You could looik back and pick up a lot of bio stuff already written here on OD. At least you could use it as material to jog your memory. Much of it could be used verbatim.

I’m nowhere near the life I foresaw for myself – and that might be a good thing. Looking forward to the next installment on your life.

I’m glad you are… heeling! You definitely should write, I’d watch you on Oprah! Oh yeah and I’d read what you write, too.

I see you are using your writing techniques to zing your readers with your last sentence and make them want to know more right now. Sitll if you have any reservations about writing about certain things, don’t write about them for your own self-preservation. I’m glad to hear that your foot is on the mend.

You don’t seem to have too many judgemental readers 🙂 Write whatever makes you happy. Take care,
