not a quiter
They say you have to get back on that horse that bucks you off. Otherwise you’ll be gun-shy of horses. (mixed metaphors, anyone? two fer one special today!)
I semi-seriously considered (am considering?) calling in sick or some non-sense and taking a day off, yet here I am, getting ready for work for yet another day of school bus driving.
I have decided to take another route next year though. The heck with these Elementary kids. I know it’s good for them to have some continuity in their lives, but omg, not if they keep helping me stress on driving or help me have accidents.

I did go buy some bourbon last night. And I drove too. For one thing, it was still raining, and for the other, I waited until there was just 20 minutes left that the store was open – it’s about a 15 minute walk up to the liqour store.
I played it safe though, and bought just two airline bottles of bourbon, one of Makers Mark and one of Knob Creek, which is nine year old stuff. In, ahh, taste testing the two, I liked Markers Mark better. It’s a wheat bourbon – 51% corn to be called a bourbon, but most of the rest of it’s made from wheat, and it’s smooth and drinkable. Straight up, no mixers, no ice.
Two little bottles meant that there was a limit, and I don’t have no hangover either. Heck, I was in bed before ten last night, and slept pretty well – no crash my bus dreams and no horrorshow dreams of screaming little kids either.
Thank God.
Yeah, I will take another route next year. Yesterday’s mid-day took me to three schools I hadn’t been to before (except in training way back in summer 06) and I have a bit better idea of where things are now.

I am not sure what to do about this: One of the girls, a sixth grader, got off the bus yesterday and told me that one of the boys "wanted to hump her". "He was humping my backpack and told me he wanted to hump me".
As if I didn’t have enough to think about. I’ll talk to the head student management guy about it, and I’ll speak to the Principal (we owe him big time for helping out yesterday! He’s really good!) about this new developement.
No rapes on my bus.
Yeah rape. That’s what you call unwanted and forcefull sexual advances towards someone who doesn’t want them. That will NOT happen on my bus.

Gotta continue to get ready for work – eating is good.
It’s Friday, if nothing else. TGIF, and no lie about that.

I would expect nothing less of you 🙂 I’m glad you’re not going to let this take away your love of driving. Getting a new route sounds like a good idea. I’m glad you are taking what that little girl told you so seriously. Some drivers may have just shrugged it off as kids running their mouths like they do. Kids need people like you!

Don’t let one bad day ruin this, those kids do need continuity. And you’re a great driver. I don’t let just anyone drive my car! If you need a break you’re always welcome here! Hang in there! Big Bear

There are always some jerks. You might be surprised next year. Students can come back as completely different people the following school year. Don’t let them get to you!

yeah, unwanted humpings suck.

I’m slowly catching up on your entries…… sorry to be a late arrival!…. lol…… 🙂

Ah, cat, you’ve had a rough couple of days….. Good for you for not calling in sick. That’s probably what I would’ve done, but I recognize how unhealthy it is.
