oh damn

 I opened the AVG PC Tune-Up tool box and did the usual Sunday mantenance routine – defrag the hard drive(s), clean the junk files out, etc. etc.

I fucked up though.  I opened the Advanced tool file and started clicking on things – I won’t/can’t say what I did, but whatever it was, the computer did not start up on restart – the screen went through the BIOS screen, and I got the XP start up screen, and then it went blank.  And stayed blank.

And stayed blank some more.  Holy shit – what did I do????  (imagine a not at all manly scream)

Holding my breath, I turned it off and the Safe Start screen came up.  I asked it to start normally.  Anguished story shorter, it froze again.

Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh shit.

I stuffed the Windows startup disc I made the other night with the Seagate tools I downloaded from the net, when I got the second internal hard drive a month or so ago, into the disk drive.  Ok then.  Normal start please.

No. it did not start normally.  Again.  Or not again. (%(*&%*&^)^^(*&%&^$^%$*&^%(*&^)*

You dummy, NWC, you freakin’ dummy.

The computer won’t start, it is the end of the world, oh.my.god.

Fourth try.  Same startup disk in the drive.  Forget trying to undo the AVG PC Tune-Up tweaks and go straight to the Restore program, click on two days ago’s restore point, apologize to Blacky for yelling at him, and hit the restore button.

Sweat the restart – damn, I need a shower again.

It starts.  It boots up.  Windows comes up like it did two days ago.  Start breathing again.

keep breathing – it won’t help if I pass out now

Firmly resolve to not touch a damn thing and never turn off the computer!  Leave it alone – it works, don’t fuck with it.

Breathe.  And again.  Again. 

Keep breathing.

Get out of the apartment and go for a walk.  Now, dummy, right by golly NOW.
