oh oh, I screwed up (and no I did not!)
The job interview went very well, I think. I gave answers that brought smiles and nods of of approval from my two interviewers. I was confident, relaxed, and in control of my self and my answers.
I wore two of the three pieces of my three piece silk suit, the one I got married in the third time.
(oh, yeah. I’ve been married three times. To the same woman. Once for the state of Rhode Island, once for us, and once for her parents in Japan.)
That is the suit I graduated from Portland State University in – the one I posted recently as a "demo" pic. My favorite suit.
I wore a fine white shirt, the one with a herringbone pattern in it, (yay Men’s Warehouse!) and wore a gold silk tie, with a double pearl tie pin, one black, one cream-silver, stuck together in tear-drop shapes as it came from the oyster.
I gave the right answers and made a fine impression, so they immeadiately sent me to a clinic (one I’ve been to before, in fact) for a drug test for DOT, the federal Department Of Transportation.
No sweat.
Next, I need to get the latest state Commercial Driver’s manual and study up for the four tests I need to take (re-imbursed, of course) and then I’ll be sent to take a physical exam, to make sure I can drag kids off a burning bus, or something; then the driver’s training begins, paid time, of course.

So where did I screw up?
I came home, mounted my digi-cam on the tripod and took a few shots of how fine I looked. They looked great on the camera’s monitor! damn near broke the lens, I’m so fucking good looking!
(hey! stop that! I am too!)
But I screwed up. The memory card was not fully inserted, and I didn’t find that out until after I took off the suit and prepared to transfer the shots to the computer to upload to Photobucket! And they looked so good on the camera’s monitor!
Ooops!
***
To sum up, I am on the road to a new job, being a school bus driver. I’ve been a good cat and should pass the drug test with no problems (unless coffee is illegal these days).
I’ll get the book, study up for the tests, take them, and then I get to do hands on training to drive a school bus, minimum 4 hours pay a day, at a starting wage of $11.63 an hour. Health, vision, and dental, paid 95% by them. After 600 hours, I’ll be vested in the Oregon Public Employees retirement system, and they’ll contribute the equivalent of 6% of my pay- not out of my pay, but another 6% of it. The first retirement fund I have ever had.
If I can’t stand the kids, I will still have a Commercial Driver’s License.

So, I screwed up, but hey, on the scale of things to screw up, it’s pretty minor, dontcha think?
And
Did I mention the silk boxer shorts too?
I like love silk.
turn it up!
Z.Z. Top’s "Sharp Dressed Man"
Ahh, but it turns out I didn’t screw up!
See?

Awesome! I knew you’d do great 🙂 I am so happy for you. You definitely deserve this. Sucks about the memory card though. I know we’d all have loved to see how fine you are.

Congratulations, Cat. The insurance and the PERS program are wonderful when you work for the county or state–I was a stateworker for most of my working life–the benefits are great. Hope you can stand the kids, but like you said, you will have your CDL–and the roads lead everywhere! I’m very happy for you!

You are so bad!!! Of course when I saw your diary title, I thought you screwed up in the interview! That’s what you wanted us to think, isn’t it??? Anyway…. GRATS, you sharp dressed man, it’s looking very good…. very good. I’m very, very happy for you.

Do we have to call you MR. Cat now? 🙂 Do you know SillySillySandee? She’s a school bus driver on OD.

Everything sounds good! Med-aid and pension is essential. I know because I don’t have them:)You look ever so smart in the suit. I hope you will stick to jeans when you drive the bus. Children thrive on “firm and fair with affection”. You will do great if you can put yourself in their shoes sometimes and never forget you are wearing your own.

Very nice! I’d hire you!

congratulations! i’m glad it went so well and they appreciated your honesty.

You did look very nice.I guess you bought your tie pin where you worked in Japan? Do school bus drivers still get paid at school vacation times? I am just wondering. Our don’t over here. They have to stop driving the school buses while school is out, and they have to go on welfare for the time they are off…or else save enough money to try and live on while they are not working…
Warning Comment
it makes it very difficult to live like that. May be you should find out before taking this job on, or you might not be as well off as you first thought. I have a new friend who’s husband drives one of our school buses, so I just found this out recently. Our longest school vacation break is 7 weeks over christams, summer break, soit’s a long time without a decent wage.

***HUGS*** Thats wonderful .. so happy it worked out for you. LOL @ you being tricky .. you had me .. I thought you must have gone and gotten back into all your clobber(good clothes). You look smashing BTW. I was so worried when I started my course that high school kids might not be fun but I am loving the kids a lot. They try it on all the time but I just remember that and laugh at them.
