Portland Saturday Market

 Portland Saturday Market is an institution here in Portland, Oregon.  It is a seasonal gathering of people making hand made and artistic goods, and it opened for 2012 on March 3rd.  My friend from Japan was here, so we had to go downtown and see what Satruday Market looked like this year.

(it is a great place for people-watching, which is free)

There is all sorts of neat stuff there, and since my friend makes glass pieces in Japan, she was very interested in what other artists are making.  Walking from one booth to another, she stopped at the stall that had things made from gourds.  There were drums and various noisemakers, and…

Yeah.  It’s a purse.

The artist used a window latch for the catch holding the "purse" closed, and it is lined with taffetta silk.

It was a big hit in Japan when my friend brought it home

She said that the Customs and Immigration people at the airport were facinated.
