some pics

I mentioned Larch Mountain in my Columbia Gorge entry the other day – here are some pictures from there, taken in 04:

Women’s Forum, where I took the pictures the other day is just behind the bend in the river to the far left…see it?

Well, no, not really, but it’s there, it really is.

Here is Mt. Hood from Larch Mountain.

At the very top of Larch Mountain there is a platform that you can see seven of the Cascade peaks from.  To the north you can see Mt Rainier, Mt. Adams, and Mt. St. Helens in Washington , while to the south you can see nearly as far south as Mt. Mazama, or Crater Lake, as it’s known now.  Perhaps we’ll go to Larch Mountain on our next photo outing.

Speaking of Mt. St. Helens, the Johnson Ridge observatory is open again, the closest public approach to St. Helens.  It was closed in 2004 when the mountain began it’s current eruption cycle.

I’ve never been there.  Hmm.  Maybe that’s our next destination.

Let’s see a show of hands- who wants Larch Mountain?  Who wants Mt. St. Helens?  Votes will be tabluated and the winner announced soon.

One last pic:

Stay tuned please – the ballad of the Cat and K* is coming up soon.

I understand that the Mt. St. Helens climb is hard work.

I’m nominating you as the worlds best photographer. They are all good but thats a particularly striking pic of Mt. Hood.

I’ve been to Mt. St. Helen’s a few times – the first time, the tragedy of it really struck me. It was almost eerie. But things ARE growing back, slowly…. it’s really a “must see” though, it’s so hard to grasp that it was once as beautiful as Mt. Rainier. (There was no climbing involved for us, we just drove to the observatories). That view from Larch Mountain is just gorgeous.

It’s been ages since I visited Mt. St. Helens back in the early 90’s. The devastation and fantastically weird flows of ash and tree blow downs was weird and scary–but there were the beginnings of wild flowers and all the scrub plants that begin to come back after such devastation. I’d vote Mt. St. Helens, but don’t want to see you re-injure your foot climbing around in that stuff. 🙂

I love the one looking west of Larch Mountain. The tree’s framing the pic are great! Take care,

I can’t vote for one or the other, cuz I just wanna see ALL the pictures! My favorite here is the top one. WOW! And also I wanted to say…. Crater Lake?? Have you been there? Do you have any photos of that? I’d love to see that. hugs, Weesprite

lovely as usual. Dialup in Tim’s room is a little faster than dialup at home. RYNs–yeah those neighbors deserve my ire but I can’t work up the energy. I bet you don’t remember your time in hospital…Tim hopefully will not either. Linette

Mount Hood is very beautiful.

Mt St Helen’s! I wrote like a 3000 words short story on it as a project once in Year 7. Always been fascinated by it 🙂

I want to go to both, please.

I totally and thoroughly envy your location… I encourage you to go and see Mt. St. Helen from Johnson Ridge!!!! I am always checking out the webcam they have have aimed at the peak… it’s part of my daily “volcano” checks. LoL
