Stonehenge at Maryhill ss
A full size replica of Stonehenge III was built in Maryhill, Washington almost a hundred years ago to memorialize the men from Klickitat County, Washington, who served in WW1. Stonehenge was then believed to be a place of human sacrifice, so the builder, Henry Hill, built it as a memorial to those millions who died in WW1. It’s now believed to have been an astrological astronomical observatory; the Washington site is just 3 degrees off from the original’s orientation.

I love what one can see through arches – gives me another idea for a painting series. I have many photos of Minster Lovell Hall in Oxfordshire (lived there for 30 years) that lends itself well to such scenes. Feel free to suggest views ‘through the archway’ for an autumn / winter series to keep me busy and out of mischief 🙂 – of course the scenes could be anytime during the year – I just need aproject for the end of summer. Btw, ‘Blacky Cat’ is proving to be a favourite – this time Blacky has gone to Scotland again. He is getting to be well travelled!
