Styles I probably won’t wear: (pics)

Hmmm.  Lots of good advice, and I have a few days to think on it.

I don’t wanna get all mushy on ya, but ya know, I really do appreciate my friends here on Open Diary.  I’ve come to feel that asking for advice here – and getting it, is a very good thing.  I have a good variety of people I think of as friends and who are willing to tell me what they think, and

How cool is that?*

*Hint: real f-ing cool.

Here are some styles I most likely won’t wear for the interview:

in the southern california desert near lucerne, back of big bear

In 1996, just after my return to the US, I bought this 1984 Ford LTD wagon and drove down to Big Bear to see my oldest  longest held* friend, Jhni.  Here, I’m in the desert north of Lucerne, and this picture is looking southeast, back towards the way we came.  That is a Pendleton hat, which, of course, I still have.

at the oregon zoo

Khakies and my previous flight jacket, in front of the Oregon Zoo in 2003.

The hat I am wearing is my standard rainy season hat, an oil-skin hat I’ve had, and still have, of course, since 1995, when I came to Oregon for summer school after the earthquake in Kobe.

Incidentally, it was just after our divorce too, but I went back to Japan and stayed there nine more months.  I did not dislike my former wife then, and most certainly do not now.  She took this picture of me in the summer of 2003 at the Orgon Zoo, where I was working in 2003-2004.

near newport bay, oregon

Here I am in 2003 with the Mustang K* and I rented to make our yearly trip to Coos Bay, on the Oregon Coast.  That’s the Newport Bay bridge behind me, and this spot, right on the bay, is a place we’ve made a regular stop too – there is a nice gift shop/coffee shop there, run by an old dude who makes a couple feel welcomed and as valued customers, even if all they buy are cappucinos and postcards.

i always dress up for the holidays at my friend's house:

This is a suit I had made for me in Japan, but I won’t likely be wearing it for the job interview, since it is a wool winter suit. I really like it though- really was made to order, at Sogo Department Store, in Kobe, Japan.

"Made for K.A.M—-" it says inside on the pocket.

I won’t wear the pink  salmon shirt – I’ll stick with white for the interview.

I’m thinking that the last few pieces of advice are likely the ones I’ll use, that I should avoid looking like I’m "over qualified" and thus not likely to stay with the job long.  I’ll use the pants from my favorite suit, seen in the previous entry and the white shirt and a tie.  Not too dressed up, but way better dressed than the black Wranglers and tee shirt I wear on the paper job.

I think I look real good in a suit (yeah, I’m a vain Cat, but we knew that, didn’t we?) and would like to have a job where I wore one all the time, cuz, ya know, it makes me feel good.

I can shine bright, and will for the interview.

I really do think of my Open Diary favs as friends, you know.

I love these pictures. I love scenery from the West. It’s so beautiful out there. Makes me wish I lived in California or Oregon. Such beautiful places! I was just reading about Big Bear the other day! I consider you a friend too, as well as all of my other OD favorites. Often I will mention something that someone has written to a family member or friend and I’ll say “a friend of mine said ….” or “a friend of mine did that”. I mention you a lot! I’m always saying something about you. Always good, of course. 🙂

I am certain you will be dressed for success in whatever you choose to wear for the interview, and you will shine thru… yes, first impressions are just that – you only get one chance, but I believe the real you will show thru no matter what you wear.. go cat!

I just got caught up on all those entries and I agree, white shirt, tie, and khakies- good pick! Best of luck!

in our local paper we have a column call “you said it and a employer was asking for sales help summer job and she said most of the girls came in in tube tops and short shorts not what you would wear to work. so sad that our young people have not a idea how to apply for a job. but i know that we have a job course in school but the collage bound kids take it sad that is not mandatory for all students.

You look good in a hat. Also thats a good looking suit. I think you could wear it to a job interview any place anytime. A wool never goes out of season.

Well I’m kinda jumping on the bandwagon a little late, but I agree with the “don’t be too overdressed” advice that you appear to have decided to go with. That’s the nice thing about jumping in late…. you can be right! There is a woman I often see in my building who dresses every day as if it is a special occasion on a Saturday night. Maybe I’m just out of step with the times but I thinkher sequins and sparkles, satins and glittery fabrics and fancy shoes are inappropriate daywear, period, but especially for the office. Then again, maybe she’s going out every night after work and having a much more exciting life than I am in my casual skirts and tops.

Well, or not so well, I am a jeans person. If you are “suited” to the job you will get it whatever you wear. Goos luck with the interview!

i’m not sure if you’d look “overqualified” and maybe i’m old school here–no pun intended–but i agree with lbh in that suiting up shows respect for your employer. that said, because it will be warm, i think dress pants and a nice shirt is appropriately splits the difference. i too refer to people here as friends.

I always thought you looked sharp in a suit (this pic), Cat. (((((hugs))))) ~the feline~ 😉

I’m glad you think of me as a friend because that is how I think of you and my other favs too. You are right…none of these outfits would be quite right for the occasion.

You look good in a suit. Firm handshake and look ’em straight in the eye.

I like the first, and the third picture. You look casual, and relaxed. Also the background in the first pic is just beautiful. Whatever you wear I am sure that you will look great. I hope that you get this job. Good luck! You can do it!
