Swing wide the doors of perception
I haven’t been to the Columbia Gorge since January first this year. Since then, I have made many repairs to my van and it is running sweet now. This morning, I couldn’t really sleep, so I went to the Gorge to see what I saw.
C’mon. Come with me to the Gorge.

Here we are, on I-84 heading east, and there’s Mt. Hood on the horizon ahead of us.

We have attained cruising speed.

We have passed Troutdale and are in the Gorge itself. If you look closely at that sign, you’ll see that there is not really much ahead of us for dozens of miles – the next town of any size is Hood River, 43 miles ahead, farther than we are going this morning.

Looking to the northeast, to my left. Immeadiately to the left is the Columbia river, the west’s largest river, running down from Canada and making the dividing line between Oregon and Washington. See that mist?

Nice to get out and hit the road. I find I’m missing my morning drive to school.

I spent a large part of yesterday on I-84 heading east, and I was a little surprised to discover there’s a chunk of it out in OR – I picked it up in Scranton, PA (where it appeared to start) and took it to the Mass. Pike (where it appeared to end). What happened to I=84 in the rest of the country?

I’m along for the ride.
