Test results

I took Blacky in for an exam yesterday.  Blood was drawn from him for a "fructosamine" test.

I seem to have had a disorganized day.  I donated my 44th pint of blood today, five and half gallons of blood.  I went shopping – I’m still not used to actually having food money – and I’ve got a freezer full of Franz Bakery bread, the good stuff, from their thrift store.  Between that and some bible study with my cousin’s wife – who is helping me to be a better person, I never did get to the post office.

First thing tomorrow.  I can walk if it’s iced up.  Carefully.

It’s all part of being a better person.

This is according to the resolution I wrote in 1999, after the car wreck that nearly took my life:

RESOLUTION FOR CHANGE

I AM COMMITTING MYSELF TO IMPROVING MYSELF.  I WILL DO THIS BY THINKING THROUGH PLANS, IDEAS, AND COMMITMENTS SO THAT I CAN MAP OUT THE STEPS NECESSARY TO ACHIEVE THE GOALS ENVISIONED.  THE GOAL OF THIS COMMITMENT IS TO BECOME THE PERSON THAT I AM POTENTIALLY CAPABLE OF AND TO BECOME A BETTER, MORE THOUGHTFUL, AND CONSIDERATE KURT.  THIS IS WHAT I CAME BACK TO DO AND WHAT I MUST DO TO BE WORTHY OF THE CHANCE THAT I HAVE BEEN GIVEN.  I WILL USE ANY HELP OFFERED AND WILL WORK TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY TO ACHIEVE THIS, AND I WILL USE THIS TO STRETCH AND EXPAND THOSE ABILITIES SO AS TO BECOME WHAT I AM POTENTIALLY.  THIS MUST BE A 24/7 EFFORT, WITH FULL COMMITMENT AT ALL TIMES.

PLAY TIME IS OVER–GET ON WITH IT.  NO EXCUSES, NO BACKING DOWN. DO IT.

ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS OR INTENTIONS.

The events of the last few months make me want to NOT be that guy on the news.

Anyway, about my cat:  The test results came back today.  I left my cell phone on the charger – I forgot it – and came home to find a voice mail on it.  The vet called with the test results.

My cat’s numbers are in the "normal" range.  We, he and I and my cat too, are doing the right thing.  His dosage is two 4 unit shots a day and that is the right amount.  His food is good – his diabetes is being well managed.

The vet says that he’ll want to see Blacky in six months or so – if he was in bad shape, it might be every month, but he’s not, he’s in good shape, and if nothing changes, as the owner should note, he doesn’t have to see his doctor until June.

I have a new prescription for Insulin, renewable for a year’s worth of medicine.  I’ll get more later this week – at only 4 units a shot, that little bit left in the bottle lasts a lot longer than I think it will, and will probably last the week through.  I have plenty of time to get him more medicine.

This piece starts with myself and ends with my cat – these are parts of my whole.

The rain has begun – but it’s more like ice pellets.  I had to drive home from my cousin’s house, on the west side, but I had no problems and no one else did around me.  I’m home and will stay here – the weather reports are guesses – weather is complex here, and we might see an ice storm overnight, but it looks like it’ll be 50 degrees tomorrow, so any ice storm will be short lived.  All sorts of things are cancelled, judging by the words across the bottom of the TV screen as I listen to the national news.  It’s a good time to stay home.

Some things I am doing RIGHT.  My cat is in very good shape, not even considering he has diabetes.  Other things I’m working on doing Right.  Onwards.
