The Gorge on New Years Morning

I finished in good time this morning and had time enough to come home, eat, and write the last entry.  I cruised the 25 miles to Portland Women’s Forum Viewpoint at the head of the Gorge.  It wasn’t overly cold, but the stiff wind made for quick trips out of the van with the tripod and camera.  I was hoping to see a really wonderously colorful sunrise this morning- ya know, special occaision and all that, but as you can see, it was a typical mid-winter morning.

This is in order.

Since I had the tripod, I turned it on myself:

(a discerning eye will spot that cigarette… I’ve found that the cold turkey method of quitting is, ah, not for me.  They had me on the patch at the hospital and the foster home, and that stuff seemed to work.  Tuesday when the banks reopen, I’ll cash my check and buy a box of patches, and like, ya know, get some help with not smoking. 27-8 years of habit is not so easy to get past)

Anyway, it began to rain and blow even harder, so one more shot:

and I got in the van and came home to post these.

There we are:  New Year’s Day sunrise in the Columbia Gorge.

Beautiful photos! :o) !! How many minutes apart did you take the sunrise shots? About quitting cold turkey: alas, my last “cold turkey quit” lasted only 23 hours and it was a miserable 23 hours, too! hugs, Weesprite

Great Pictures, I remember driving along the Columbia River Gorge and it was beautiful! and as always, the handsome cat…I’m with you on the cigarette thing….it’s tuff to quit after 21 years. Happy New Year to you.

Great photos…do you use a flash in the morning? (Hoping you don’t mind me picking your brain with all these technical quesions.) I’m heading out to take some of the river as we have a beautiful sunny day out.

..and don’t feel bad about the cold turkey method not working. The only times I’ve been able to break bad habits cold turkey is when I’m hugely angry. Usually I have to substitute bad habits with slightly better ones, distract myself…a whole pile of strategies. …and I haven’t started going to the gym yet.

The gorge is glorious anytime of day in my opinion! Lovely pics, as usual, and thanks for sharing them! Hey, if the patches help, go for it! Its the nicotine gum that works best for me! Again, I say, I DESIRE that bomber jacket! 😛

Now that’s a New Year’s Day…. You look somewhat like Geddy Lee, from Rush. Happy 2006!

Wow! I love the pics.

Very nice pictures. Sorry the smoking thing didn’t work. Article in paper today (thank you) said you just have to keep trying. So good luck.

I feel you on the no smoking ordeal. It’s been a huge obstacle, but I’m being very stubborn about getting proper help. I honestly don’t smoke that much, but what I smoke I need, you know? People say, well, if you’re down to five or less, you should just quit altogether. They don’t understand that those five are all I think about all day! How horrible is that? Good luck to you. I hope the patch

works out.

i used patches in the beginning…… added 2mg of gum in from time to time when the days would get especially brittle. the desire to smoke does not leave. but it’s easier to say no to it now. good luck. keep trying.
