the last pack
The countdown is about to begin.
This is my last pack of cigarettes:

This is my favorite brand of cigarettes. Peace is the second oldest brand of cigs in Japan- developed after WW2, hence the name. The oldest brand is Hope.
My former father in law used to smoke these and they are my former wife’s favorites too. She says that if these weren’t available, she wouldn’t smoke at all. I will be e-mailing her in a little bit to mark the last pack opened.
I saved this pack to be the last one I open and smoke because I lke them. I want to end my smoking life with my favorite brand.
I talked to K* on Monday night and mentioned that I still have lots of cigars, and she said I could smoke them if I want, but to be strong and not buy any more cigarettes, and that is what I intend to do.
On the one hand, I am looking forward to not smoking. It is a habit to light up when I do this or that and I am ready to break those habits. On the other hand, habits can be hard to break, so it may be a good thing I live alone- ask Blacky how I’m doing in a day or two, haha.
I intend to document my efforts here on OD because this isn’t just an "open diary" for others to read, it is my diary and I want to remember when what happened. It seems that a lot of my readers do not smoke, but some of you have been supportive and I hope that will continue- this may be harder than I think it will, lol.
20 smokes to go and then it’s over.

I’m pulling for you Cat. You can do it!

Good luck, Cat! I quit October 3 (because I had to have my surgery on October 6). Its definitely got its benefits. I especially enjoy not hacking so much and not having my hair and clothes smell like an ashtray all the time. If you take it a day at a time, and sometimes one hour at a time, its definitely do-able. 😀

Are you going to use nicotine gum or anything else to help you with cutting back? Or is it going to be the cold turkey thing? I quit drinking regular coffee a few years ago and I went through a month of headaches and feeling crappy. That was hard enough and I can still drink decaffe to continue the morning ritual. Nice you saved the best pack for last.

When you smoke cigars do you inhale or is the nicotine just absorbed through your mouth? I’m looking forward to reading your quitting smoking entries…I’ll even try to be forgiving if I get a few narky notes back from you. Good think Celtic Catnip can’t see my keyboard…it’s worse than yours.

I will be as supportive as can be! I know how hard it is. I’m still pretty much a newbie to this non-smoking thing myself. May I suggest you put a little counter up on your computer? It really does feel good to look at it and see how long it’s been, how many cigarettes you have NOT smoked, etc. Mine is from silkquit.com I’m rooting for you Cat!! ((hugs))

I quit smoking about 10 years ago. When things got unbearable, I found that a cup of coffee helps. Except if coffee keeps you awake, try something else. I donno what……maybe gumdrops. Anyway good luck.

You can do it! Just think how much better your lungs will be in 7 years when they’ve regernerated. Did you guys have those commericals over there where they showed you thegunk that went into a smokers lungs? Ick – put me off for life. Not to mention the fact I get a bad headache whenever I’m around second hand smoke.
