I spent most of the day doing things for my cat. I got a gift card for Target (I have not been there but once or twice) from my cousin in SoCal, and took it to the store today and bought 50 pounds of cat sand for the box, 20 pounds of dry Friskies cat food, 8 cans of food, two packs of kitty treats, and some toothpaste for me. (and some 8 o’clock bean Coffee – I used to drink that when I lived onthe east coast, but it’s very hard, so I thought, to find here in Oregon).
(I lived up to that statistic – the one that tells us that when redeemed, people often spend more than the card’s value, because I couldn’t remember whether the Trader Joe’s card or the Target card was 40 dollars. When I got to the check out, I had $40.03 in stuff. It tuned out that card was worth THIRTY dollars, so I went ahead and paid the $10.03 difference off my check card, which means that there are slightly more than two dollars left in my checking account. Well, so it goes)
I spent most of the gift card on Blacky, but it’s stuff we’ll need down the road. I came home to find two emails from Pongo re: my cat’s insulin. I had told them who my vet was and Pongo contacted Dove Lewis, the local Animal Hospital group. (who, incidentally, helped me with Hope Cat, who I got after I moved out of the Foster Home and into this apartment 11 years ago. It turned out that she had thin spots in her lungs and one blew out, and it couldn’t be fixed, "even if I had just won the lottery and had all the money in the world?" I had to have her put to sleep. It was, no lie, heartbreaking)
Dove Lewis contacted my vet, up the street. He has offered to give Blacky an exam and the insulin he needs, if he has enough in stock, free of charge. If he does not, Pongo and Dove Lewis will help, and Blacky will get the medicine he needs. One way or another, my cat will get what he needs, and thus, I will get what I need – my cat.
Please get us informed and follow up on this, Pongo writes to me.
I will.
There are good people out there. There is help for the most important animal in my life.

Many of you have written me regarding this situation and some have offered material help. Right now, I can’t do more than be grateful and thankful and all misty-eyed.
I can post more photos – let me offer my view of Oregon and my Guest Photographer’s pictures as poor repayment of much kindness.

I have tears in my eyes as well. I am so glad that the folks at Pongo are going so far above and beyond for you and your kitty. I am keeping you both in my thoughts. I in fact told Chris about you both this evening I think it got to him because he has Atreyu and Cleopatra(who i’ll have to post pictures of) that he is like that about, the cats before him. We get it and we’re here if you need us.

who would not carry deep gratitude for this?

J is reminding me that the stores do something with the gift card, like taking away a dollar for every day you don’t use the card. ugh! will you post your mailing address?

ryn: thx for the address. i don’t think of you as begging. just asking for help during this “bridge” time. we know you wouldn’t ask if you weren’t in need. i can’t put a sitemeter on my diary because i’ll obsessively check it! you know that your worth is not based on that number or the number of notes, yes? i know sometimes i stop by, am not sure what to say, then come back later. or, i’ll try to catch up, forget that i didn’t leave a note, then when i return to refresh my memory, i think, “crap, i though i left a note!” also, i’ve just been out of sorts with OD. i’m low energy or low something and have had trouble writing and connecting and even mustering the energy to receive/leave notes. i know a lot of people are having a hard time emotionally (and financially) for some reason. but i do get that sometimes writing helps and sometimes it seems like it doesn’t.

such wonderful news. interesting that you said “even if you had just won the lottery;” my vet used those exact words to me this morning. :/
