this really is a short entry

Monday morning, and up surprisingly early (for me, these days).

A quick look at my notes on OD and a quick look at Face Book, and on to Google maps.

Of course, my home – the apartment building – is bookmarked, but I had a thought – why not look at Japan and see where I’ve been.

omg, I can see our house!!!  In Street View, damn, it’s almost like I’m there!

Ok, ok, I’m probably the last guy in the world to know this, but wow.

"Natsukashii!"  (Surprised nostalgia)

My old neighborhood looks different – a lot of newer buildings, built since the quake in 1995 – I left in 1996, and my apartment was gone then, torn down because it was wrecked in the quake, but omg, there’s my parents-in-law’s house!  (former p-i-l, but still relevant to this life here).

I could see this as a all-day thing – where have I been and what’s it look like "now"….

wow.

***

Completely unrelated thought- over 70,000 – SEVENTY THOUSAND page views in the two years since I pointed out to K* my page views on OD in 2010.  Even if I had only a penny per view – a nickle is the standard – I’d be impressed.

I think I have things to write and to show, but it’s nice to have a confirmation that indeed I do, because people are looking.

Another wow to start my week with.

RYN: Battle Royale may be obscure, but the concept is the exact same as the Hunger Games, so when people talk about how original The Hunger Games is, I get rather testy about it. And, yes, it’s hard to be original nowadays, which I have no problem with, but I guess I’d rather people acknowledge the previous works as well. I work in the YA publishing industry, so being overly critical about these

things sort of happen naturally. My problems with the movie, however, is how it didn’t explain why it’s even called “The Hunger Games,” why Gale’s name was in the lottery numerous times, the fact that Katniss was not in love with Peeta at all but acting in order to get sponsors, and the fact that Katniss was oblivious to the uproar she was causing. (Which was shown in the movie.) I think they

filmed and produced the book into a movie way too fast ~Anna

(Sorry for all of the notes) But, all in all, you are right. The movie is still good and entertaining. ~Anna

🙂

RYN: My best advice, if you’re interested in publishing a YA novel, is to write it first, and then send query letters to literary agents and/or go to writer conferences. Hope that helps. ~Anna

I LOVE Google Maps. Street view is amazing. Google Earth is capable of showing you an aerial view of the same area over a period of time. The earliest we have in this area is ’98, I believe. That’s pretty cool, too.
