Later in the evening

Something very odd happened this evening–well, actually two odd things.

Backthataway <————- there is an entry about me giving blood, Well, about an hour after I got home, I got a phone call asking if i would give again! I immediately thought that perhaps something had happened to the blood I just gave but, no, that wasn’t it. Apparently they were in need of more AB positive blood!  I had seen notices up all over the room asking donors to consider become what they called "double donors " but had thought nothing about it at that time.

Well, normally I would have said yes, but a couple of years ago, I gave a double amount of plasma, drove thirty minutes to the library and passed out there dramatically enough that I was in hospital for a couple of days. Apparently I had a sudden depletion of potassium and magnesium and after I had been rehydrated with these added, I was fine. Well, today I felt fine until I got home and then I felt a little dizzy. Five minutes resting made me feel normal but it made me a little wary of giving so soon. So, I politely declined, and I will give blood again on May 17th.

The other odd thing was that when I drove down to the library at about 6:15, I discovered they had changed their hours and closed at 6 rather than 7 on Thursdays. Now, I don’t know if the book club were still meeting at 7 pm or if I had the day wrong, but if they were meeting, they were meeting without me because I had to force myself down there anyway. So, we shall see.

I have just had a cup of Fred’s meat, vegetables and barley soup and very good it was, too!

end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow".

It is good you watch what you give, no sense becoming ill.

Wow! You have rare blood. Jesus was supposed to be AB. How would they know that? You are so good to give at all!

That’s a lot of blood to give in one day. It replaces itself fairly quickly, especially if you drink lots of water, but all things considered, that might be a strain on your system for sure. That low potassium thing would be kind of worrying. Might be a good idea to eat a banana before or after giving. Just to be safe.

I made 2 loaves of bread in my bread machine this week and I thought of you everytime I made it 😉

Oh dear – they could’ve asked while you there rather than let you get all the way home first. lol

I have never heard of giving double at blood…that even seems dangerous to me. I thought they were really strict on the once every 57 days routine. I know how important it is to give but I would not risk my body doing it.

Yeah, I’ve been asked to be a double donor, but I don’t think it’s ever a good idea. Wasn’t so long ago they wouldn’t take my blood because I was anemic.
