Coach Claus

Last Friday I went with my honey to his game. He is an assistant coach of the school’s baseball team and I rarely get to any of the games because of the distance so when I do show up, I never get to see the game anyway because of all the people stopping by to say hello. But the novelty of seeing me there has worn off and I was actually able to see the whole game. And when I say ‘the whole game’, I am not just whistling Dixie!

Neither team scored anything for the first 5 innings of the usual 7 innings played for a high school team. Usually a game takes 90 minutes to 2 hours to play. Finally in the 6th inning the opposing team scored 2 runs and our side tied the score with 2 runs at the bottom (that’s baseball lingo for ‘second half’) of the 7th inning. The way it works in a tie is they keep playing until the tie is broken so they played another inning.

And another, and another, and another, and another, and another, and another, and another, and 4 hours and 10 minutes after the start of the game and Praise the Lord and Hallejuiah the other team scored another 3 runs in the SIXTEENTH INNING!!!

Yes, it was the other team that won, and I was SO happy that the game finally ended I didn’t care who won, just that it was OVER! LOL! It was by this time after 11PM and the temp had steadily dropped by about 20 degrees and I had had enough!

I sat close to where Dennis stands to keep the stats and he had wandered over to talk to me a few times and suggested we see a real game the next night since the Durham Bulls were playing. It was a great idea when he suggested it around the 5th inning, but by the time we got to the car we both said NO WAY! LOL!

I did get a couple of good pictures though, including the one that may just end up on our Christmas card! Or at least framed with the two small statues that he has of Santa playing baseball on either side of it. So what do you think? Does my honey look like Coach Claus with his reading glasses on his nose so he can watch the game and keep stats at the same time?

This next photo is an ‘action shot’…sort of. He’s keeping his stats!
It’s taken through the fence, obviously.

So these are nice pictures and all, but I really gotta make a montage of his reactions to the bungled plays his kids pull off during a game. Even I, a novice, can tell these kids’ heads are not in the game this year. So when they blow an easy play or whatever, my husband’s reactions are downright comical! The clipboard goes flying, the garbage can gets kicked, he starts muttering to himself, but my favorite was when he was leaning on the chest high net in front of the dugout and they blew it bigtime. My honey’s clipboard went flying over his head and he just hung on the net. Knees bent and head back and moaning like he just got shot! Everyone was yelling and bummed out but I was laughing my head off at my poor honey! So I’m going to work on getting photos of all these reactions and entitle the group of them "The Agony of Coaching Kids with Heads Up Their Asses!" What do you think of the title? LOL!

Nice photos, the one thru the fence is really interesting compositionally wise. But I gotta say, “No he doesn’t look like Santa” he looks much nicer. Now if his hair was white and the uniform red and he gained 50lbs. then…… Good to hear from you, I’ve been wondering and hoping all is well. Enjoying the warmer weather finally? You all get it before us and it’s been pretty nice here as of late.Have fun, good you enjoy one of your husband’s interests. Fun to do stuff together huh : > )
